i have many friends where i get up at 2am just to pick them up anywhere they may be or doing favors but does it need to be reciprocated to be considered a friends? i can honestly say everybody is my friend because of mutual respects/understanding and more...

I think it's all about how you want it to be. Now there are people, like a sibling of mine, who claims everyone is her "best" friend, and they have been for 20 years...when I know she and I moved around so much as children, that this can't be. Some more...

My closest friends- tested by the mutual fires of real-life and have earned trust. Hopefully I have reciprocated though perhaps ungracefully.
Your'e right though... the word is like a slippery fish when you try to get a firm grip on definition.

cyber friends, in real life friends, family, ummm I don't say the word friend to fast. It takes awhile for me. But once you are a friend then you are a friend for life.

I can only speak from my own experience, but it seems like you can't "make" friends. Friends happen. One of my best friends ever was someone I couldn't stand and wanted nothing to do with at first.
