I was once lost in creating a clay sculpture, feeling as though the piece were telling me what to do in its own creation. It was a spiritual experience, like an energy working its way through me- I was the conduit for it and I was grateful.

how to fire raku along with another student and as he transferred my piece from one pit to the next, he dropped it and it shattered.
In one instant, I was mortified, but in the next, I'd realized the piece was no longer necessary and that the experience of making it was the thing. In many ways, it was and still is my teacher.

Hope you have a magnet to gather all those pins that fell on the floor. They aren't nice to step on!

joy, I guess. And also, as you say, peace of mind and energy to do other things. I think I have to remind myself more of that. I have been a bit frustrated with my pottery lately. Must get back into the zone.
As for important. Sheesh! Especially when you are making something people can use, I feel you are always doing something important. I have a blanket here which my great-grandmother crocheted for me from remainders of yarn that my mom had used to knit me clothes. The clothes are all gone, but the blanket remains and is a wonderful reminder of a wonderful lady. Not only that! IT KEEPS ME WARM! :-)

My question. Can you be creative when you are stressed out? Can you be creative with a deadline? (I ask because I cant)

Hey, I meant to ask about the pins in the quilt. Please explain the pins as a part of the quilting.
Is it part of your vision? Or is it a technical thing?
or both?

Could you imagine Vincent Van Gogh painting furiously in a field, thinking about the value of his work?

I think that, for myself, the creative process and the creation have equal value. I've stayed up until four in the morning, spending hours to find two lines to a poem, and then getting up three hours later for work - fully satisfied. Getting lost in

the work and getting lost in the result are both fulfilling.
Self-fulfillment has its rewards (of course).
