On March 10, 2008, the Tibetan Freedom Movement launched its global Tibetan People's Uprising. In New York City, thousands of Tibetans and Tibet supporters more...gathered at City Hall early in the morning and then marched to the United Nations. Tibetans inside and outside Tibet have begun a series of nonviolent direct actions including a return march to Tibet. The Chinese military has since cracked down on the Tibetan people and over 100 Tibetans have been killed inside Tibet. The Tibetan People demand the Chinese Government allow H.H. the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, to return to his homeland Tibet. Demonstrators ask for the release of hundreds of political prisoners, and for China to stop its Colonial rule and population transfer, which is wiping out what remains of Tibetan culture inside the country. The Tibetan People have also called for a boycott of the Beijing Olympics. Until Tibet is free and the Chinese government puts a stop to its human rights abuses, China does not deserve to host the Beijing 2008 Olympics. One world—one dream—Free Tibet now. less
