These are the times that try men's souls. In a famous speech in South Africa in 1966, Robert F. Kennedy referred to an ancient Chinese curse which says, 'may he live in interesting times'. The only problem? The proverb is not ancient, it's certainly not Chinese, and scholars differ as to whether it was in fact intended as a curse. The notion that a concept can be commonly held and yet still untrue has a long history. John Kenneth Galbraith coined the term 'conventional wisdom' in 1958 which he said   more..."serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking."

Today's dominant conventional wisdom is that an international Sunni Islamic fundamentalist paramilitary organization who 'hate our freedoms' have been responsible for a spate of terrorist atrocities over the past decade and present a threat to our 'way of life.' Like the Chinese proverb however, it's not true. Unlike the proverb however, this conventional wisdom has led to two conventional wars, secret prisons in Europe, Guantanemo bay, torture, Abu Ghraibh, extraordinary rendition and a 'long war' that will not end in our lifetime. As a result, this book doesn't dwell on the proverb.

There is a 'long war' taking place. But it is a different type of war. It is a war for the minds of mankind. An info-war. It is a war that like others has cost lives, and like Hunter S. Thompson you might just be surprised. In the info-war communication is our only offence and thought our only defence.

They said that truth was stranger than fiction. It was a gross underestimation. The reality of our times is so grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre and unprecedented that most will struggle with its dimensions. Truly 'a desert of the real.' As a new take on the timeless story of good versus evil however, the 9/11 truth movement, a true planetary cooperation of individuals, has brought countless diverse acts of courage and belief into 'a collection of ripples' that are presently 'crossing each other from a million different centers of energy, formulating themselves into a current.'

'There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.' Yet this is the measure of the task we face, and the road is strewn with many dangers. 'With a good conscience our only sure reward then, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth.' The kaleidoscope has indeed been shaken. The pieces are in flux. The current is gathering behind us. Out of this period will come either the 'new world order' of our masters or what RFK called in that famous speech 'a new world society.' The difference to our lives and our children's lives will be profound. Don't sleep through the revolution. Like it or not, we live in interesting times. We will have our day of affirmation.
