Description:
On further investigation, iMovie '08 is a pile of dog poop in my opinion - no theming, no clip splitting, no timeline mode, no video effects, etc, etc

Look at the lynda.com video training for it, it looks quite complicated in comparison to iMovie but it is infinitely more powerful. It might be more satisfying in the long run.

Indeed.....this makes me feel that I should definitely check out FCE and get a handle on that to see if it is the way to go.

I am very disappointed that the new iMovie 08 blows dog wind. I have read many reviews that basically echo what you have said here. There does not seem to be a frame by frame edit, which is what I live for.

Oh well - I guess there's always iMovie 09 - maybe they'll get that one right

To add titles to other colors other than black, make the color background in another application and import it into imovie as an image, and put the title over that. A program like photoshop would do the trick or any sort of image type program.

That's a useful tip - thanks!
I guess I can definitely "work around" the shortcomings....just disappointed that I can't do it all in one piece of software

Oh you can directly upload the movie to YouTube from iMovie now! Hmm i may get this after all! As long as i can keep iMovie 06 :-)

Ive been reading up on it and there are many people not happy! However i have found a basic pdf doc manual and it seems you can clip frames. Page 33

Thanks for posting that manual reference Susan, it's quite useful to me. I'm pleased that it looks like the new iMovie will import my videos more directly from my still frame camera without me having to go through iPhoto first.

They surely cant have taken out something as basic as splitting a clip? Thats one of THE main editing things people do!

That really sucks! Personally, this would tend to keep me away from Imacs completely. I had been thinking about getting an Apple computer somewhere down the road. Is it possible for you to get a refund on iMovie? If so, I recommend Adobe Premier Elements.

(No, Adobe's not paying me to say that, lol.)

I just installed iLife08 and spent the last few hours sorting my photos into events. I haven't tried the iMovie yet, but now I am worried. Could it be that the terminology of splitting a clip has changed, but you can still split a clip by selecting

the portion you want only, and then selecting the next portion. In effect turing the one clip into two? I haven't purchased any 3rd party effects software for my '06 imovie so if somebody does come out with some for the 08 I could still get it. I really wanted the new iMovie because I want to buy a video camera with a hard drive. I hope that will work.
