Yup - we should withdraw now - there's no way it's going to get better. Repairing the political wound will take many years. History will record all this

as a huge stupid mistake whichever way you look at it and here we are allowing President Bush to continue to try to save face when EVERYONE knows it is a huge mistake. I particularly feel sorry for the parents of those in the Armed Forces - with an incompetent as Commander In Chief and no-one challenging him. He doesn't command the respect of a piece of toilet paper

I disagree - if the coalition forces (primarily US) pull out now what do you think will happen? al sada's madi army and the Iranians will take over, they will then have access to nuclear technology and will be able to develop wmd. Its ironic that bush

and blair would then have created what they said was there in the first place but wasnt! Syria and Israel will get involved Russia will back Iran, Turkey would prob be drawn into it and the whole region will spiral out of control. No we have a responsibility to stabilise and rebuild Iraq it will be much worse in the long run if we cut and run.

to ubergringo - if you believe your statement "no more Iraq, no more problem" you are about as deluded as the people who believed the invasion of Iraq had anything to do with Sept 11th. Is it all the cowboy films that you guys are brought up on that

Sedonaleigh - Turkey isnt a member of the EU yet, and one of the reason they're being blocked is their human rights abuses of the Kurds. The Turkish army was at war with the PKK during the 80s and 90s trying to prevent the kurds from breaking away and

forming their own state. So Im not sure why you think Turkey wouldnt become embroiled in this.In terms of resources, Iraq has the third or fourth largest undeveloped oil reserves in the world. So no lack of potential revenue you would think. So why isnt more effort being made to secure oil supplies and bring them to market? A reduction in the oil price perhaps? Cutting off your nose to spite your face when you and all your Saudi mates are benefiting from high oil prices maybe.

Hi Morphine - well I dont really see them as the worlds police force because they only intervene when its in their interest. I thought the idea of the UN was to provide that role, but then its always been undermined by the US.

We can't stabilize Iraq. For Iraqis, chaos is the norm. Smartest thing we could do with Iraq is divide up the country and give it to the surrounding countries. No more Iraq, no more problem.

Thanks for the comment. I don't agree, but you make interesting points. I'm having great difficulty with the United States being the "World Police" more or less unilaterally
