i LOVE both effects, yours with more light seems to be better, the way a nova would be, extremely violent and convey a greater sense of loss as the planet is destroyed. very nice effect, the way it should have been done in the 60's.

I'm not sure why your version is meant to be better. It looks more lucasy, while the original effect has some restraint.
