 | | | Guildford Flames 4-2 Slough Jets - English Premier League/Cup - Sunday 4th October 2009 08:30 Competition: League-Cup Location: Guildford Spectrum Referee: Roman Szucs Linesman: Stefan Hogarth; Paul Brooks Attendance: 1,355
Fresh off a more...3rd consecutive win, the Guildford Flames stepped back onto Spectrum ice and used a pair of 1st period goals as a springboard in delivering the Slough Jets first regulation loss of the new campaign by handing them a 4-2 defeat. Gary Clarke opened the scoring early on the powerplay when he teed up a blast from the point that beat Gregg Rockman. Nathan Rempel scored his first in Flames gear in the 18th minute to double the lead ahead of the first break. At 28.59, though, the Jets replied when Peter Poljacek pulled his side to within a goal. The Jets applied the majority of the pressure in the last 6 or 7 minutes of the period until a Joe Greener penalty proved costly when Rob Lamey converted a powerplay just over a minute from the period end; sending Spectrum’s team to the last stanza having re-stored the two goal cushion. The clubs traded goals in the final 20 minutes. Rick Plant opened a 4-1 Flames lead at 45.32 before the Jets had a handful of powerplays over a short span of time, including a pair of 5 on 3 advantages; the first of which they turned into a goal when Blaz Emersic pulled his club back to 4-2 with the final goal of the night.

| | | | Guildford Flames 4-2 Swindon Wildcats - English Premier League/Cup - Sunday 27th September 2009 09:30 Competition: League-Cup Location: Guildford Spectrum Referee: Dave Cloutman Linesman: Tom Pering; Tom Stephenson Attendance: 1,436
After a win more...24 hours earlier in Slough, Spectrums franchise returned to home ice and backed up the earlier success by doubling the Swindon Wildcats with a 4-2 score. The visitors opened their account on the powerplay after a scoreless opening frame when Aaron Nell one timed a corner feed in front of Flames netminder Dean Skinns at 20.31. Milos Melicherik replied to even things up at 32.05 and the clubs took the tie game into the final frame. Less than a minute into the 3rd, the Flames were awarded a penalty shot after a Swindon player gloved the puck in the crease. Martin Masa was put in the spotlight for the occasion and tucked a high shot over the shoulder of Geoff Woolhouse to put his side in front. At 47.49 Gary Clarke collected a Tom Duggan pass and slid a backhand beyond the goal line to extend the lead to a pair. Nearly 10 minutes later Masa netted his second of the night to put the game out of reach. The Wildcats responded with another Nell goal 7 seconds from time, but it had little effect on the ultimate outcome and the league table points.

| | Guildford Flames 2-3 Basingstoke Bison - English Premier League/Cup - Sunday 20th September 2009 07:51 Competition: League-Cup Location: Guildford Spectrum Referee: Roman Szucs Linesman: Stefan Hogarth; Richard Boot Attendance: 1,364
The Basingstoke more...Bison paid their first visit to Guildford Spectrum since 2005 but wasted little time in stamping their mark on the game when they took a 1-0 lead just over a minute in thanks to an Ondrej Lauko goal that set the stage for a 3-2 Basingstoke win. Lauko extended that margin to a pair at 14.40 and the 2-0 lead held over into the middle frame. At 26.21 the Flames finally got on the board when Gary Clarke cut the lead in half. There was no further scoring until 43.26 when a loose puck on the Bison blue line during a Flames powerplay left Lauko alone on Dean Skinns from mid ice giving him the opportunity to complete the natural hattrick, which he did, to re-store the visitors two goal cushion. At 49.51 the Flames showed life when a Martin Masa strike pulled the Flames back to within a goal. Not long after that, however, the Czech native was on the wrong end of a major penalty and game misconduct for checking to the head. The Flames efforts to tie the game shorthanded in the closing moments were unsuccessful, leaving Spectrums outfit with a pair of defeats to open league and cup play.

| | | Guildford Flames 8-1 Swindon Wildcats - Challenge - Saturday 12th September 2009 08:58 Back on home ice for the first time of the season on Sunday night, the Flames shrugged off a 4-3 defeat in Swindon 24 hours earlier to send around 1600 more...Spectrum faithful home a happy bunch after a delivering an 8-1 win in exhibition play over the Wildcats. Things looked good early when Martin Masa netted to finish a two on zero break by taking a perfect feed from Paul Dixon at the goals doorstep, but the celebrations were a bit premature as the marker was another in a string of goals the club had waved off over the weekend of play. Fortunately, for Flames followers, the next one counted when Stuart Potts found the net for a 1-0 lead at 7:24. Jozef Kohut replied for Swindon just over a minute later on the powerplay to even things up. Gary Clarke collected a powerplay strike of his own to put the Flames back in front at 10:20. Just over a minute into the middle frame, Lukas Smital extended the home lead to 3-1 and Potts tacked on another at 22:39. The home side carried the 4-1 lead into the final period before Jez Lundin scored his first in a Flames shirt to open a four goal cushion at 43:21, then added his second in the 47th minute. Rick Plant chipped in at 53:11 before Masa one timed a Smital feed while shorthanded 59 seconds from time to complete the scoresheet and the Flames win.
