In October of 2000, me and my family flew south of the Equator to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. Truly a magical place, and it was a privilege to visit.

The island is roughly 36 miles in circumference and is surrounded by a barrier reef. The protection from predators makes it a haven for some incredible underwater life. The native people I met there (Maori) were some of the kindest I'll ever meet. At 3:41 you can see Piri at the top of that coconut tree. He scaled it in maybe 20 seconds. A wonderful, kind man who helped us learn many local customs. You can learn about him here:
