I wouldn't say that people have a desire to be like everyone else, but rather that everyone wants to have a place in society, some group among whom they are accepted.
Good video

Knowledge conquers fear. I was frightened of GWB until I realised he's got mental problems. Now, I'm still not comfortable with that kind of person having his finger on the button, but when you understand why someone is doing something, instead

of putting them in boxes with emotive labels like 'good' and 'evil' and just leaving it there, you can think rationally about how to rectify the situation and reduce other people's fear into the bargain.
Fear is also a great controller, which is why Governments are so fond of using it on us. I think what you're not frightened of is as important as what you are, because everything you're
not
frightened of is one less tool others have to control you with.

Fear can become a drug. It's a very weird beast. Thanks, Bryan.

You're not too late to be in on the project. I definitely can see some things here I can use, and I especially appreciate, as a teacher, your addressing bullies.

Hey Tony, this is a vid I made that encapsulates a book I read called "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway". I thought about it as I listened to how you categorized types of fears (well, not really "categorized" but distinguised one form from another...)

Check it out (but I hope you're not prone to seizures when seeing flashing lights...)

It would be nice to think of GW as a sociopath, but the fact of the matter is he firmly believes his actions are divinely inspired.

When you believe in God, and are certain he is guiding you, logic, reason, and rational consideration of the consequences of your actions isn't necessary.

Greetings from Europe. It got a bit long and will be a two parter. I’m going to skip over my quick fix against fear and go straight to your saying, people “suspend” their fears. Interesting. We can swim a while, go all distances

on land but we definately don’t belong in the air. Falling off a ladder, okay. Off a roof, maybe. Going 1000 kmh at a 10 kilometer altitude in a thin metal tube?,.... Pretty iffy. Apart from disenfranchising your soul of the voyage. So, it is an extreme privilege to be in this domane, the price of the honour, should anything go wrong, certain death. But we do it anyway, why? Because we can. We’ve collected experience and made statistics of them, thus, most peoples rational part computes past the insanity of driving a car or of flying in an aircraft and sees the mass of sucessful miles per person and calculates the likelyhood of their number coming up as being worth the trip. Moving on to “peer pressure”, it’s an age bracket, as I see it. Quite possibly a “natural” occurance. The “warrior age”. When desire to test their strength, becomes compelling in young men and inevitably leads to confrontation. Various North American indian tribes probably tried to take this into account with their tribal “wars”. It had qualities of a game, for example, “counting coup”, touching an enemy rather than killing him, brought you more points and prestige. In our society we sometimes try to expend this energy in sports. Which is good. Then there’s the possibility to collect this energy in the military. Which is less good. Although unfortunate as it is, every Lord needs his mad dogs at the manor gate. I think sociopaths are bred by society in it’s entirety. I have images in my mind, of a self feeding, somehow self sustaining beast I can’t yet chain in words. What can we do? It’s up to us to be the counterweight. To work incessently at making this planet a better place to be and raise your kids on. To constantly watch for new ways to demonstrate and live the proof that co-operation is so much better and beneficial to all involved, than confrontation. As to Hollywood reflecting our fears of this “beast”,.... Oh yeah. Frighteningly true. Even though we usually end up kicking some serious butt and coming out on top in the end.

Now we get to Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and various Nobel Peace Prize winners,.....the list is long,....they are not alone and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least a few of them, never personally took a life. There is always a system behind it, an organization,

a party, a government,... but that is by far not enough. The element vital to their success,.... is popular support,........oh. (an embarrassed silence ensues,... broken by,...) Hey! Now I’m looking you, as an American citizen, right in your patriotic eye and saying, conversly popular support against a bad government,.... will bring it down. To close off,...back to sociopaths, they have no sytem behind them, that function is taken up by an anonymous, brutal, callous, depressive, egoistical, forlorn,.....add your own,.... society. Good night Sir. Sleep well, dream of sudden impeachment.
