 | | | Unchained Melody Tag 03:47 Thank you for tagging me JessicaPeanut! First, I tag NewtsNook, if she hasn't already been tagged. ;) I really enjoyed this tag, because this is one more...of my all-time favourite love songs, as I'm sure it is for many, many people. Just a bit of trivia -- Unchained Melody has been recorded by over 670 different artists, and the rights to this beautiful song are owned by Sir Paul McCartney. less Added: 4 hours ago Views: 10 Category: People |
| | Brave Mountaineers 03:39 This Gordon Lightfoot song took me back to the summers of my childhood that were spent on my Uncle’s farm. “We never were much bothered by time” as children, more...but as adults, we are all encumbered by the clock, the marching on of time, and we look fondly back on the simpler days of our youth.
Brave Mountaineers (Don Quixote) 3:30 Born in the country and I like that country smile Of the little girls and boys, they remind me of a child That I knew and a big harvest moon That shon' by suppertime in the dusty afternoon And I need to be there When the autumn wind goes whistlin' through the trestle we would climb Like brave mountaineers We never were much bothered by time
Born in the country and I like that country song We played for just a nickel every time we got to town And I bought you a dime diamond ring In the hayloft we would play, we were princesses and kings
And I need to be there When the world gets too heavy and the shadows cross my mind Like brave mountaineers We never were much bothered by time
Born in the country and I like that country way Of the uncles and the cousins and the card games they would play While the young ones slept overhead Beneath the quilts that mother made, when all the prayers were said
And I need to be there When the autumn wind goes whistlin' through the trestle we would climb Like brave mountaineers We never were much bothered by time
And I need to be there When the world gets too heavy and the shadows cross my mind Like brave mountaineers We never were much bothered by time

| | | On Susan's Floor 03:46 This is one of a few songs that Gordon Lightfoot recorded but did not write. This song is also based on fact. "Susan" was Susan Brewer, a lady who opened more...her home to some of the "outlaw" artists of the 60's.
On Susan's Floor (Don Quixote) 2:55
Like crippled ships that made it Through a storm and finally reached a quiet shore The homeless found a home on Susan's floor
Didn't feel so cold and tired Stretched out before her fire Rollin' smokes and drinkin' up her wine And I remember candlelight And singing 'til we could not sing no more Then fallin' warm asleep on Susan's floor
Well now that my song is sweeter I think I'd like to greet her And thank her for the favors that she gave A stranger I came My head bowed in the rain to her door I sat and sang my songs on Susan's floor
In the mornin' I'd go on Buyin' kingdoms with my songs Knowin' I'd be back in just a while Warm in the sunlight of her smile
Well lots of time and songs have passed I catch myself just looking back Reliving all the wonder of those nights That's where I'd be today If I had only stayed one night more And sang another song on Susan's floor
Like crippled ships that made it Through a storm and finally reached a quiet shore The homeless found a home on Susan's floor

| | Affair On 8th Avenue 03:29 This one's been high on my list of favourite Lightfoot songs since the first time I heard it. The power of the sense of smell… Who hasn’t been transported more...back to a specific place and time just by the scent of something – fresh cut grass, home baking, perfume? A woman’s fragrance is carefully chosen to be memorable. Gordon Lightfoot attests to that with this beautiful song.
Affair On 8th Avenue (Back Here On Earth) 3:39 The perfume that she wore was from some little store On the down side of town But it lingered on long after she'd gone I remember it well And our fingers entwined like ribbons of light And we came through a doorway somewhere in the night
Her long flowing hair came softly undone And it lay all around And she brushed it down as I stood by her side In the warmth of her love And she showed me her treasures of paper and tin And we played a game only she could win
And she told me a riddle I'll never forget Then left with the answer I've never found yet
How long, said she, can a moment like this Belong to someone What's wrong, what is right, when to live or to die We must almost be born So if you should ask me what secrets I hide I'm only your lover, don't make me decide
The perfume that she wore was from some little store On the down side of town But it lingered on long after she'd gone I remember it well
And she showed me her treasures of paper and tin And we played a game only she could win And our fingers entwined like ribbons of light And we came through a doorway somewhere in the night

| | | Gifts From My Parents' Backyard 04:37 I want to share with you a place I truly love. It's on the Bruce Penninsula, between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. I always dread the 7-7 1/2 hour drive, more...but once I get there and get outside with my camera, the weary traveller disappears and is replaced by the nature lover. You'll see why. Welcome to my Parents' backyard. This one stars, in no particular order: Monarch Butterfly, Ruby-Throated Hummingbird, Chipping Sparrow, Chickadees, Rose-Breasted Nuthatches, Red Squirrel, Cottontail Rabbit, Chipmunks, Hairy Woodpecker, Robins, and the Bluejay. less Added: Aug 6, 08 Views: 121 Category: Pets & Animals |
| | The Gray Tree Frog 02:35 I put this video together for TheChildrensTable, and those of us not afraid to admit a fascination with the gifts that Mother Nature has given us. A more...year ago, we met our first Grey Tree Frog, Pudge, when he clung to the window beside our front door. This spring, he was joined by Spout, who was found in the downspout of the eaves trough of our shed. A tree branch to sit on, dirt and moss to burrow in, clean, springwater to soak in with an occasional spray bottle shower, and a supply of crickets keeps them healthy and happy. less Added: Aug 3, 08 Views: 96 Category: Pets & Animals |
| | | Now And Then 03:16 “Now And Then” is another wonderful song from Gordon Lightfoot. This one explores the difficulty of ending a relationship when the head knows it’s time more...to leave, but the heart still holds that flicker of hope that the love that was once there will once again see it through.

Now And Then (Cold On The Shoulder) 3:09 I think this time you've said enough to make me want to leave this place Still I keep coming back for more of the same to fan the dying flame Here inside these walls that seem to move a little closer every day There must be a way out of this crazy game we play out to the end Let us just pretend a while Think about the good things now and then I think this time that was the best time that we two had ever known We tried the handle of the house upon the shore and found the open door Once inside we found a curious moonbeam doing dances on the floor We were only playing like two children who had stayed away from school Two of us could not be wrong Heaven knows who keeps the golden rule
I think this time we've learned enough to know that nothing is the same But still the pounding of my heart hasn't changed and leavin's so strange Here among my thoughts of you I find a gentle longing to be free There must be a way out of this crazy game we play out to the end Take away the in-between Think about the good things now and then
We will see the day when you or I will stay or face up to the end Let us just pretend a while And think about the good things now and then less Added: Aug 1, 08 Views: 133 Category: People |
| | Ribbon of Darkness 02:45 I'm sure many of us can identify with the feeling of darkness and despair that results from a lost love. Thankfully, things have a way of working out, more...just as dark clouds and storms eventually move on.
Ribbon Of Darkness (Lightfoot!) 2:42
Ribbon of darkness over me Since my true love walked out the door Tears I never had before Ribbon of darkness over me
Clouds a-gatherin' o'er my head That kill the day and hide the sun That shroud the night when day is done Ribbon of darkness over me
Rain is falling on the meadow Where once my love and I did lie Now she is gone from the meadow My love goodbye
Ribbon of darkness over me Where once the world was young as spring Where flowers did bloom and birds did sing Ribbon of darkness over me
Here in this cold room lyin' Don't want to see no one but you Lord I wish I could be dyin' To forget you
Oh how I wish your heart could see How mine just aches and breaks all day Come on home and take away This ribbon of darkness over me

| | Let It Snow - for Surfcottage 02:10 It's not every day that you meet someone who prefers the snowy days of winter over the summer's sun, but Surfcottage is one such person. I hope this more...helps her beat the heat by thinking cool thoughts. Unfortunately, winter will be here before we know it! ;) xoxoxo
Most of the pics are from winters in Ontario and Quebec, and of Vernon, BC's "Silver Star" ski resort.
Also, this is a "Snow Tag"!! I've tagged JUSTCALLMEHU and RhiannonRose, so watch for their wintry vids soon and get your snowy pics ready! Blame Surfcottage! ;) lol less Added: Jul 25, 08 Views: 385 Category: Travel & Places |
| | | Java Jive - for TheCoffeeHouse 03:06 TheCoffeeHouse is expertly owned and operated by two of the nicest ladies on LV, CH1 and CH2, our favorite baristas. They make their rounds, watching more...vids and delivering steaming cups of coffee or tea made just the way we like it! This is my thanks to them for brightening the days of so many LVidians. The song is "Java Jive" by the Ink Spots, (1940). less Added: Jul 19, 08 Views: 202 Category: Music |
| | Alhambra 04:32 This piece of music, “Memories of Alhambra” by Francisco Tarrega, is played here by Canadian, Manfred Harter, whom I have had the pleasure to meet and more...who has played many wonderful arrangements for me. I knew nothing of the Alhambra, but as was the case with a previous piece of Manfred’s music, “Mystery of Tikal”, I wanted to know what it was that attracted him to this piece.
The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex in southern Spain. It sits on a hilly terrace on the southeastern border of the city of Granada. Once the residence of the Muslim kings of Granada and their court, it was designed to reflect the very beauty of Paradise itself, with its gardens, fountains, streams, palace, and a mosque, all inside a fortress wall. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions and on my "Bucket List" -- those special things to see or do before I die. ;) less Added: Jul 18, 08 Views: 67 Category: Travel & Places |
