After doing Fly To Be with Joanna I really wanted a third track with vocals for the album as two didn’t seem enough. So I wrote the backing track to this song and sent it to Joanna to see what she thought. It was very different to God of Night and Fly To Be and a much more conventional sort of rock song. Despite being incredibly busy with her studies Joanna wrote and performed these wonderful lyrics and once again amazed me with her voice and her ability as a song writer. Although she was not keen to speak her native Polish in the middle part of the song I encouraged her to do so and I’m glad I did as I think this part sounds fabulous. Even though Joanna hates it! Ha! Ha! 8^)
I intended the video to be a simple one but actually this video has been the most complicated and difficult video to edit I have ever made. But I enjoyed making it a lot none the less.
As the album is now done this will probably be the last collaboration with Joanna for a while. Although there is a fourth track on the album that features her voice. SO BUY IT!! 8^) I am sure and certainly hope that we will do something again in the future sometime.

Fly To Be.

This song features on my CD now available at http://www.willgell.com as well as more...a MP3 single version. It began life as an odd little guitar solo I was playing around with when I started to think that Joanna would be able to sing to it. I sent her a recording of the solo and she wrote, recorded and performed an astounding vocal. I then asked her to add backing vocals, which she had never done before, and soon the piece took on a whole new feel and I arranged it with the addition of bass guitar and synthesisers on top of the original guitar.
As this was meant to be a quirky piece for my CD there wasn't originally an intention to make a video but with the imagery Joanna's lyrics created it was too hard to resist. We both agreed that a graveyard setting was a must for this video so Joanna took her friend to a graveyard in her hometown Poznan, Poland and shot the outdoor scenes and later filmed the vocal parts separately.
I then spent the best part of three days editing this video together. I'm hardly in it at all!! 8^)
It's a very beautiful and sad song and one which I am very proud to have been part of creating.
Thanks to Asia for being Director on location in the graveyard! 8^)

A little musical nonsense! I haven't played mandolin and bodhran for many years so this was fun. Also making their first appearances here are my new Yamaha more...BB614 bass and Schecter Tempest Extreme electric guitar. Also making a rare appearance is my old Takeharu WT-100 folk guitar which was my first real guitar and the instrument I learned on when I was 15. Never having had a microphone I never used it to record with but now I can.

My first video of 2008! And my first piece of music recorded in my newly redecorated studio in my new home! Which is actually my old home where I was more...born and raised! This is the second time I have collaborated with karenWow (Joanna). more...The first time was a simple jam along to her "The Tower" song. I sent her a demo of a simple three chord idea in Aminor that I thought would suit her style and asked her if she could come up with some sort of vocal. She surpassed my expectations with this wonderful vocal and lyrics and I was able then to build on this to produce this song. She kindly also provided me with some video footage to enable me to create this video for the song.

Video for my latest composition. I wrote this a couple of weeks ago as a guitar solo but I've been ill this past week so did nothing with it. I recorded more...it yesterday by exporting a MIDI file of the guitar solo arrangement and assigning a softsynth to it in Sonar before layering the three guitar parts over that.
