Description:  Fear can make you a stranger to yourself.

This was what I needed to say in response to seeing the movie, "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster. It's all about   more...

I finally got to watch the Brave One last weekend. I liked it.
I also like your analogy of the lead character as being symbolic of America. A very interesting way to look at it. And I couldn't agree more.
Peace

Yeah, too bad we have to communicate about that stuff in metaphors.

Did you notice the sound of a jet overhead as they walked into that tunnel...?

;o)

I think this is the first time I've seen this one. It's funny the things that you bring out in me that I know is there but I just don't take them out and look at them. Fear into anger is one of them. When I was very young I was intimidated by some   more...

Oh, Dave...I know, I know. I was a bully, too. It's hard never knowing what the lasting effects of your actions were toward others...never knowing if you're the monster in their ongoing nightmares, or if you're the reason they can't open their hearts   more...

Everytime I watch this it touches my core. Everytime.

Just...wow.

This one seems to touch me deeper inside than I wish for it to. Fear is one of the emotions that seems to take ones self away from them self. Who am I and what am I doing in life anymore? The fear of not knowing ones self and where they are going in   more...

I think or rather hope that I understand you.
I was thinking the other day on my country and what it is becoming. I in one way came up with an odd analogy of America and the book "Les Miserables". Is My wonderful country Jean Van Jean finding itself   more...

This is as much about America as it is about me or the character in a movie I saw that was changed by fear.

spreading fear in the media and by george w bush is big business. we're not going to take it. continue to stand firm against it! and NEWS FLASH: NO ONE is making it out of here alive anyway.

wow what an insight to life, fear is a controler, and many times you dont know what fear is controlling.
fear to love
fear to talk
fear to say fear to not say
the list is endless,
but as long as we know fear is there we can do something abount it
thanks for   more...

The wounded heart heals ever so slowly, and until it does the deepest darkened corners of our souls, fear, anger, loneliness, depression etc. Is our only companion until the healing has completed. For some the torture is short, for others it is long.   more...

Syd,

It makes perfect sense. Having these companions gives us a sense of Being. I fear therefore I must exist ! Without the fear, anger, loneliness, depression etc, what are we left with while in that state of mind? They fill a void of nothingness.   more...

One thing I forgot to mention is that I grew to like that companion, as self-destructive as it was...it felt good to feel like I didn't give a shit (I was unaware I DID give a shit at the time...don't know if that makes sense)

Thought provoking as always, Syd. I haven't seen the film and was a bit surprised at Jodie Foster taking this type of role.
But hearing from the comments that you can take the film as a metaphor for America makes it a more interesting way to approach   more...

Two things that made me realize it- just before the attack, you hear a very loud airplane overhead. Then there's a scene where she helps a woman who's just hit by a car, and the injured woman looks up at her and asks, "Is this still America?"

...I was particularly interested in this film coming out.....fear of conspiracy..you cant fault any human being on the planet for having that kind of doubt and fear... what we perceive as "reality" and what probably is the reality (the unknown) is what   more...

Fear of the unknown sometimes keeps us from being in the know

Ignorance is indeed bliss
