Description:
Fear can make you a stranger to yourself.
This was what I needed to say in response to seeing the movie, "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster. It's all about
more...
how fear in the form of rage can change you. To me, the title of the movie is ironic, but the audience seemed not to think so.
The scenes here are from that movie.

I finally got to watch the Brave One last weekend. I liked it.
I also like your analogy of the lead character as being symbolic of America. A very interesting way to look at it. And I couldn't agree more.
Peace

Yeah, too bad we have to communicate about that stuff in metaphors.
Did you notice the sound of a jet overhead as they walked into that tunnel...?

I think this is the first time I've seen this one. It's funny the things that you bring out in me that I know is there but I just don't take them out and look at them. Fear into anger is one of them. When I was very young I was intimidated by some

other boys in town. I lived my whole life in fear of them. That is until my fear of living like that over came my fear of them. The fear of living like that the rest of my life showed itself as anger. I to my regret hunted each of those boys down and beat the ever living crap out of them. I bullied them for a long time. Till one day I realized I had become them. That was when I let go of the fear. But, I must live with the fact that I have it in me to be a bully. I don't like that.

Oh, Dave...I know, I know. I was a bully, too. It's hard never knowing what the lasting effects of your actions were toward others...never knowing if you're the monster in their ongoing nightmares, or if you're the reason they can't open their hearts

all the way...
But at some point, before we can forgive others for their weaknesses, it seems we have to forgive our own selves first, especially that very young, very unwise, unknowing self we have long since grown away from.
Thanks

This one seems to touch me deeper inside than I wish for it to. Fear is one of the emotions that seems to take ones self away from them self. Who am I and what am I doing in life anymore? The fear of not knowing ones self and where they are going in

life is one that I never felt before now. Yet there are bigger fears in me but I am a very small cog in the giant machine of America that seems to not know it's self. I hope that I shall not some day pass away in Amerimexicanads. I only want My Red White & blue from now till the day my light goes out. May those that caused the dawn of America's dusk feel the wrath of a country led astray by lies.

I think or rather hope that I understand you.
I was thinking the other day on my country and what it is becoming. I in one way came up with an odd analogy of America and the book "Les Miserables". Is My wonderful country Jean Van Jean finding itself

in a situation as that man was? In the end Jean Val Jean watched his villain at his own hands jump in to in the Seine yet I am sure you know this. I think that America's worst villain to fear is itself or some of those in our lovely country. This might be an off the wall thought but I thought at the time that it kind of fits.

This is as much about America as it is about me or the character in a movie I saw that was changed by fear.

wow what an insight to life, fear is a controler, and many times you dont know what fear is controlling.
fear to love
fear to talk
fear to say fear to not say
the list is endless,
but as long as we know fear is there we can do something abount it
thanks for

The wounded heart heals ever so slowly, and until it does the deepest darkened corners of our souls, fear, anger, loneliness, depression etc. Is our only companion until the healing has completed. For some the torture is short, for others it is long.

Syd,
It makes perfect sense. Having these companions gives us a sense of Being. I fear therefore I must exist ! Without the fear, anger, loneliness, depression etc, what are we left with while in that state of mind? They fill a void of nothingness.
The irony is that each of us needs fear, anger etc as they are tools to use, it is when they take control is the problem. There has to be a balance, a ying an yang per say. One would never know joy if they never felt sadness, and after reading this I’m wondering who am I trying to convince more you or me !! 8-)

One thing I forgot to mention is that I grew to like that companion, as self-destructive as it was...it felt good to feel like I didn't give a shit (I was unaware I DID give a shit at the time...don't know if that makes sense)

Thought provoking as always, Syd. I haven't seen the film and was a bit surprised at Jodie Foster taking this type of role.
But hearing from the comments that you can take the film as a metaphor for America makes it a more interesting way to approach

Two things that made me realize it- just before the attack, you hear a very loud airplane overhead. Then there's a scene where she helps a woman who's just hit by a car, and the injured woman looks up at her and asks, "Is this still America?"
