Description:
K80blog over at YouTube put a call out for vloggers to address hot-button issues at the risk of offending those who find diverse opinions offensive as

opposed to being part of a global dialog (okay i added that last part).
If you don't necessarily see these times as being "risky", please please please convince me otherwise, and point me to where I can find evidence of it.

I agree that it is "us" who must stand for things like we did in the 60's, when news technology wasn't even as advanced as it is now.Journalists had to wait a day or two to get their pictures and stories sent from major drives through Vietnam to somewhere
more...
tey could send it from, and then it took up to ten days to get footage about the horrors going on there broadcast onto the evening news. Now, it takes several minutes, and journalists are showing us on a daily basis the stupidity of a war that we have no business in -- and nobody takes to the streets except immigrants wanting asylum. Listen, after teaching high school, I know why there aren't any rebels today. Kids can only learn so much in overcrowded schools where teachers can't teach the Bill of Rights or 1st amendment rights because it takes much longer to teach over noisy kids who don't know how to JUST sit in a chair and be still. Most of them can't read or write because they've been passed on in the "No child Left Behind" programs. We've sheltered them from real life issues by avoiding "negative conversations"Meanwhile, parents shelter their children and encourage them to be disrespectful by not punishing them for talking back. We certainly don't want them to be like the dirty, drugged out hippies who protested the war, so why would they think that protests are a good thing? I am so mad about the way our American students have dropped in international scores in science and math from 3rd in 1993 to 9th in 2003 -- and I recently read somewhere that they are now 13th in the world --- in a nation that has all this wealth and knowledge. Parents need to get real because some of "us" are too old to be rebels. And, by all laws of nature, they should be inherently inclined to reject all types of traditions. Who is minding the educational system ... and who is going to instill a sense of responsability into them? It should be OK for parents to teach their kids to mind. And you can bet that it all boils down to our failing educational system and lack of parental honesty about how well a "Time Out" is working! Thanks for letting me bitch. A disgusted ex-high school teacher, StormyShea

I hear what you're saying, but public ed is not what's wrong with public ed- it's how closely tied to politics it is and how private interests want the 12 billion dollars that gets cycled through it every year to make its way to their pockets. THAT's
more...
the crux of it.
Don't believe the numbers- statistics are political tools used by special interests to turn the public against the system so that it further undermines their confidence in it, making it easier stuff like vouchers and privatization to be accepted by the people.
Yeah, the schools are overcrowded and we're being asked to fill more and more of a socially inequitable gap, but that's only because the resources are craftily being funneled away from where they're most needed.
Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response. You should vlog about it!

Is it a risky world? Well yes, but it doesn't seem as risky as the 1960 and 70s. And how would you have coped with McCarthyism? And I dont think I'd have had much of a time in WW1. There's probably never really been a golden age when the government has

had the same ideals as the people. But you're right to shout 'poo' when things stink! It makes a difference if enough people agree.

"Take more risks." I'm all for that! A slew of quotes are popping into my head about how doors open when we risk, and divine providence comes to meet us when we step forward... but the one that stands out most after watching your vid is this, from

I have to say, I don't agree that the internet has leveled the playing field.... I believe it has helped some Americans to be be able to access more sources of information and to be seen and heard, but still not enough. Not enough! Too many disparities in access, literacy, technological "power". Yes? The playing field sure is a lot less slanted though....
Thanks Syd, as always, for your passion.

There's a lot going on in terms of grassroots organizing when it comes to the Internet. Even those who don't have access to technology can benefit if they're more represented thanks to the growing power of citizen journalism, social justice advocates,

and watchdog groups.
Thanks Hol!
