impromptu Tinikling at Ramon Obusan's home. Tinikling is a Philippine folk dance. I am not an expert but this is my understanding of one of the folk more...tales. When the farmers plant rice birds come to eat the seeds so the farmers devise traps made out of bamboo to catch the birds legs. The Tikling is one of the birds. The dancers are depicting the birds jumping in and out of the bamboo traps. The man on the right is a national artist of the Philippines know for his research and teachings about folk dances. After the lecture and demonstration by his dancers he invited the audience to show their skills.

Matthew Rushing, a member of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, performs a modified dedication piece of “Ode to Alvin Ailey” a piece choreographed by more...his HS dance teacher at Los Angeles County HS for the Arts, Ka-Ron Lehman. Matthew went directly from HS to Alvin Ailey’s company and has been with them for 17 plus years.
This is from the 10th Annual Choreographers Awards at which Ka-Ron received an award as Educator of the Year 2004
