I'm sorry to hear you lost your childhood home. The one good thing about that is it was not turned into a parking lot or strip mall. My whole town was transformed into suburbia about 10 years ago. Before that, the population hovered around 2000, now

This house was a nice Victorian. it used construction techniques that don't exist anymore because of labor and materials cost.
The sentimental value is beyond measure.

I sure it was a little sad for you to come back there and it was gone. I remember the house I grew up in when I started Elementary school. My Dad was a caretaker of a dairy farm and the house was rented out but it was a BIG house back in the day.

No AC but we had wall heaters. A big fireplace in the living room. It was 42' long with hardwood floors. A wrap around front porch with 4 bedrooms. My Dad had a tractor and sometimes in the morning, he would take my sister and I to the school bus stop about a 1/4 mile done the driveway in the bucket of the tractor!.
Even though the house is gone, we will still have the memories, good or bad, it was home.

Took a look at the satellite view and the property is like an oasis in the middle of a cluster fcuk of condo's and subdivisions. I hope someone in your family got some benefit out of the property. Yep nothing lasts forever. It is sad but just a fact

It used to be all farmland out there. At night it would be dark enough to see the Milky Way. I haven't seen that in years.

Sad your financial situation wasn't such that you could have bought it from the estate and restored it.....looks like it was a beauty in its day..a great place to grow up. Glad you at least have some pictures as well as your memories. Most likely the

I don't recall exactly. It was before going down to Deals Gap. But it was earlier this year.

I can imagine it's quite sad to see it go. Do you think someone will rebuild on the site?

I hope not. The township purchased the property as part of their open space program to prevent developers from building too many houses. The infrastructure (roads, schools, etc) are unable to handle the load of more people.
