If you do get up there, go visit the Falkirk(sp ?) Wheel...gives a whole new twist to canal locks/boat lifting.

What an amazing network of canals and locks throughout the UK! My wife & I honeymooned there in ......umm.........oh yeah, '95 :-) , but didn't even think of a house boat. Maybe a 2nd honeymoon will be the go. (Know anyone to look after 5 kids?)

Yep, a canal holiday is great if you are lucky enough to have good weather. I couldn't think of anything worse if rained for the whole week though.

There is a canal that goes through Casubury Park in Watford, Harts that I used to watch the barges come through. It really is a cool thing to see.

It sure is an interesting way to move a boat up hill.

I watched an awesome documentary on the Manchester ship canal. Now that is one really impressive feat of engineering. It's just a pity it doesn't get used much anymore. The big container ships have outgrown it.

Yeah, they are pretty cool. Amazes me how such a long and heavy boat is so easy for one man to pull with a piece of rope :)

Thanks Dan. I haven't read any bike mags for years. I used to buy performance bike mag decades ago but boat life is becoming more and more popular again due to rising house prices.

Great stuff all this English heritage and countryside. Only problem with watching your videos is, that now I’m beginning to wander whether I actually needed to spend several thousand pounds on 2 holidays abroad this year. ??? :-/
