My gut tells me they want pure novices to use this and then move to Final Cut Express as they get more competent. That also tells me that they shot themselves in the foot by building too much functionality into iMovie '06. At least it didn't GET RID

of iMovie '06 when it installed, so I'll fall back to using that. If you purchase a new iMac with '08, they apparently make iMove HD '06 available to you as a free download for you - what does that tell you?
It looks like they rushed iLife '08 out - I am pretty disappointed, I must admit - very un apple-like. Obviously they were preoccupied with iPhone, Leopard and the new iMacs - you can only do so much cool stuff at one time, huh?

My iMovie 6 has a lot of hidden features that were not readily apparent. Maybe iMovie 8 is like this with features that are not readily apparent?

Some people were complaining that you couldn't fade out sound clips, but maybe they are just expecting people to ship the iMovie out to Garageband for serious sound editing?
I thought that the Themes were a bit tiresome anyway, since there was such a

limited selection of them.
I was wondering about selecting the video and then choosing "cut" to get rid of that part. Is that possible?

Actually yes - that's what you do I guess - magnify the video and drag thru it to select the piece you don't want and delete it. I need to investigate how to do colored backgrounds for titles, because I use them a lot and black backgrounds all the time

just don't cut it for me. Oh well - such is life. I had expected them to "build" on what they had, not remove stuff

Now you'll be able to rapidly produce a movie showing how pissed off you are with the new iMovie.

I had seen other people complaining about the same thing. I personally won't miss video effects, but I liked the "extract audio" feature occasionally, and I knew that they had dropped themes. Can you not do a select and "edit cut" to cut out little

also see my new video about this - very disappointing on further investigation. I am waiting to see what you think about it when you get yours. No Theming, no video effects, no timeline mode, no title backgrounds, no splitting clips to chop little bits
