Description:
Behold! The beauty of nature, but also the impact of mankind on the pristine environment of "The Last Frontier", Alaska.

We watch the "calving"' of a glacier in Alaska's Glacier Bay National Park. The glaciers are rapidly receding and may soon be gone forever. Is "calving" natural progression or a result of global warming?

I wonder just how many islands are going to be

Hmmmm.... I'm sure there is a certain amount of erosion of the glacier by the wake from the ships, but something tells me that the combination of the layers of pollution and global warming are taking their toll on these wonders. Great vid Leigh --

LOL- lunch, as always, was plentiful and good.
This was my second visit to this glacier, the visits one year apart. The facade of the glacier has totally changed from the prior year.
In this area, the ships cut their engines, and actually stop down for

about an hour. The ancient blue ice is breath-taking when not covered in soot, the result of pollution. Most glaciers are still pristine, especially the ones reachable only by helicopter. I have a photo of a beautiful, blue lagoon, high up in those unreachable snow-capped mountains...taken as we flew over in helicopter. I will try to find it to show you.

Thanks, Suze! You get my vote for someone I want by my side for the next trip!! We can sing on the plane- on the train- on the ship- and up on a glacier -like the Von Trapps!

Pretty soon there won't be any more glaicers to calve. It's a good thing you got to see them while they still exist.
