It’s a misconception… A false perception
There is no one true reflection…
One representation
If you defy more...the stagnation that would swallow you whole,
the sole remaining answer may surprise you
when you realize we did climb out of that hole
that existed in our collective mind
Chains that bind, thrown aside to lie beside
shackles rusting in our past would haunt us,
but did not deter the dauntless.
A century after the Proclamation
that would... rend a nation?... Join a nation…
they made that first great walk
to hear a leader talk of a dream
that seemed elusive:
Equality for all… brotherhood for the good of all
The spirit of those who rode for freedom had a voice
And now, two score years and five later
our nation makes a choice,
raises its voice for all to hear.
We’re crossing those lines
that divide our nation…
lines in the minds of those
who would deny the brotherhood and equality
that lived in that dream on the Mall
We’ve answered Martin’s call,
looking to a leader from beyond those lines,
to a new voice that hails this land of Democracy…
this land of opportunity,
for at last we see
And across the seas and around the globe,
a disenchanted world turns its eyes our way,
hailing the day we answered that dream
That is perception. less
