I actually could have talked much longer on different aspects of it because it's so complicated. As I understand it, "Benefits" such as healthcare came about in world war 2 when there was a freeze on wages. To get around that freeze, companies offered
more...
free stuff, or perks to reward employees and attract new people. Today, if it were not for "Group insurance" through employers, many people would not be able to afford it at all. I think this also gives Small business owners some incentive to offer insurance(not required) so they can save on insurance as well as provide incentives for employees.
