Portland did better than a lot of other places, like San Jose or Sacramento. But then, that's obvious. And arguing is not allowed.

East St. Louis was the 2005 Per Capita Murder Capital of the US - 63.4 per population of 100,000 (extrapolated from a population of 31,000).
Elizabeth, NJ is bush league in that category.

There will be members of my family who will be upset that I put NYC at #1 instead of Boston, and it was a tough call, but NYC is bigger than just New York State, bigger than the East Coast even, it's America's downtown.
