thats just crazy how people dont pay attention to anyone these days...and im guessing especially in america since you can buy a gun whenever if you just have the paperwork done, which i think is kinda sad.
One question that i would like to ask would be
more...
why CAN you buy a gun in america?
to protect yourself? ....thats just stupidity if you think that a gun can protect you, a gun can hurt you more than others.....in a way
if you accidentally shoot someone and kill them you go to jail for that and yeah that hurts you, if you shoot someone in self defense stll you hurt yourself cause if you shout help people should help you which i find it strange that you wont get any help from people
yeah i dont wanna make a whole A4 page about guns and peoples stupidity but its just crazy that you can buy a gun in america

The way our country handles mental illness is pathetic, at best. The gunman had undergone some psychiatric treatment, but the problem is that the laws are written in such a way that only the mentally ill can seek out their own treatment. Umm...if you

suffer from a mental illness, you don't think rationally, so they can't possibly make that decision on their own! A great book to read on the subject of how our country handles mental illness and what we can do about it is "Crazy", written by Peter Earley. It's a VERY enlightening book. My heart goes out to everyone. Two of the victims were from my hometown. It's very sobering.

He had been committed once after expressing suicidal ideology. One of the most distressing problems with mental illness is that often, people with mental illness will not continue with treatment. I've got a friend who's a prof at Tech, and I was more...

more... scared to death for him. Essentially, the problem here is the fact that we are cut off from each other. Nothing was really more responsible for this than alienation. This wasn't something that started at Tech. This started years ago. Cho was a guy who spent most of his life in alienation, whether it was chosen or inflicted, no one can say at this point, but at some point someone probably could have reached him. They missed their chance. The hard thing is, no one knows when those points are with people, and often with people who are deeply alienated, especially with a combination of mental illness, they can be hard to take. They can test your patience. In the longer run though, it pays to have the patience to try and reach out to someone, as we see in this instance. Honestly, things like this make it even more important to me that I should try to love my neighbor as I do myself. I'm not a religious guy really, but I've seen first hand how much some compassion, tolerance and kindness can go in taking the sick of heart and the jaded of spirit back to hope and some faith in their fellow man. It happened to me. It can happen for anyone. The opportunity to stop this guy from doing something like this was missed a very long time ago. We haven't heard much about his early years yet, but I'm betting hands down he wasn't a popular kid, and was probably one of the kids who knew too well the cruelty we can inflict on each other when we're immature. I'm not defending him, and I'm not saying he's a victim, I'm just saying that blaming the university or gun laws was a foregone conclusion with this guy. If he couldn't have gotten these guns legally, he'd have gotten them illegally. He was going to go to any lengths to insure people understood how angry and hurt he was. This late in the game, only chance was going to stop this. If by chance someone would have figured out what he had planned, they could have stopped it. Other than that, this guy was going to do what he was going to do, and very little in his behavior that we know of so far would have given an inkling he'd have been capable of this. There's no easy answers for these thing. I really wish people would stop dumbing down situations like this one. less

Truely a tragedy.
Life is the most precious gift and is needlessly being taken away day after day. Every where you look dead bodies lay, guns and swords, unkind words the cause of all of this. Virginia Tech and Columbine are small prices to pay for lacking

the foresight to speak up and say something. Unavoidable and unforseen are the words they use although the signs were there and clearly visable. The echoes of gunshots etched into our memorys of what has happened, soon to be quickly forgotten. But once we for get we are reminded; every where you look dead bodies lay, guns and swords, unkind words the cause of all of this. And although life is the most precious gift it is needlessly being taken away day after day.

The lyrics of this anime opening song might mirror the inner world of the gunman.

Hi Mary,
First, I would like to say that I love BikiniNews in general and I do agree that the VT incident was a real tragedy. Just as the hundreds of deaths in Iraq were tragic this past week.
I would like to comment on your views of gun control. I don't

think I can change your mind though. I'll just say that gun control laws are not the answer. The reason is, guns were not the question. Even so, take a look at this video from Penn & Teller. I believe it is from their 3rd season.
