Wow what an experience! It's good that you weren't really sure exactly what was happening at the time because you probably would have been really nervous. It's also so nice that you got a piece of the wall! You have your own little piece of history!

It may have been fortunate that your exchange parents had YOU with them... being American, I doubt the East Germans would have wanted the politcal repercussions.
I had a pen pal in Markstein during that time and she spoke about it quite a bit. Great more...

I remeber the day when the wall was built while on vacation in italy in 1961 august i think 13.

In a tent camp we had lots of discussions about it with students who semed to have the facts all wrong. They thought West Germany more...
