You know I bought a nice Specialized MTB about 3 years ago to try and get fit again. I rode regularly for 3 months the summer that I got it and now it has been hanging in my garage without the tires touching pavement the whole time. I should dust it

off and see if I still know how to ride a bicycle. It would look really odd riding that thing with a helmet. But on the plus side it only has suspension in the front so I don't have to worry about a rear shock failure.

Well I have the rear of the Cat on jack stands right now and I have received the lightly used shocks. I have to find time during the week this week to make it over to the racing shop where they are going to look into rebuilding my shock with custom

parts. The only problem is that they close at 5pm and on weekends they go racing. So I have to figure out a day that I can work from home and slip out early in the afternoon to go run a 2 hour errand. I'll keep you posted and if the bike can be repaired in short order I will ride again as long as the weather holds up. But the vids will probably not be of the commute because I don't like coming home in the dark on the bike. It's just too long of a trip in that kind of traffic.

Dammit, what a bummer. Like you say, it probably has happened at the best time possible. Should be right as rain if you get one of those shocks rebuilt and not too pricey.
I think I'm also done for the season too. I have a couple more vids to upload

and then I'm gonna have to improvise a bit more and maybe visit a few obscure places with the camera.

I've got one commuting in the car that I think I can make something interesting with. Like you said we can all keep it going through the down season just need to get a bit creative.

My only concern is that you are saying that you're done for the season!!! WTF bro!!!! Anyway chief, good luck with the bike man. Till the spring. I'll be riding all year round as long as it is 35F or higher and no ice or snow. i guess I'm done too then!

Well I don't think I will have the bike back in running condition for at least 3 weeks and by then it's going to be pretty cold. I may take it out on weekends if it is above 50 F but I am not going to be commuting with it for now. I just gets too dark

Had the same thing happen on my thundercat few months back, phoned up yamaha and they wanted 400 ($800?) for the shock without fitting so I went to a breakers and they gave me one for 20, fitted myself that afternoon, still going good. Dont think my

By options you mean more custom parts? They're dying out a bit now tho since they stopped making thundercats in 2003 here. Not sure whats wrong with the gearbox, never slips out of gears jus so difficult to change gear, it jus crunches and grinds. Shift

kit probably couldve prevented it but looks like its gonna have to be new engine or bike. Hope you get your shock fixed soon.

The OEM shock is not worth that kind of money that is why I am going the custom route. Unfortunately in the US we don't have as much options for the Thundercat as you do in the UK and if I had something shipped over from there it would cost double or

more. Is that you getting a knee down on the cat in your avatar? I actually bought 2 shocks from some guys on the YZFR600.com forum but I still need to have them rebuilt because I don't know how they were used and what condition they are in inside. What happened to your gearbox? The infamous 2nd gear problem? If you do get it fixed make sure you install the Factory - Pro Shift kit to prevent that in the future.

Does the R6 suspension fit on YZFs? If they do, I'm sure lots of YZF folks upgraded to R6 suspension. Maybe you can get their lightly used OEM suspension.
You should check out the classified section of the Yamaha forums.
Good luck. I really enjoy your

videos. It's more realistic since you ride in NY/NJ....it's like watching a real person ride (as opposed to watching someone in Taiwan or PA or MD or TX ride). I actually know which roads you're on!!
Hopefully the fix won't cost you too much. Looking forward to your spring videos.

LOL Fud. I didn't mean you were fake. hahahahaha. It's just when I watch Thunder's videos, I'm able to feel like I'm riding because he travels on the same roads that I do.

Hey I appreciate that you like my vids and I am sorry to have to let you down but I'm not going anywhere and will continue to post vids as soon as I can. Unfortunately the R6 shock is not interchangeable. Too bad since there is a ton of stuff out there

for the R6 and a lot of squids that have wrecked them so parts are a plenty and relatively cheap. I've checked out the forums and actually picked up 2 shocks from a couple of the members. I will now take them to the race shop so they can see what is usable from the two and what custom parts need to be ordered to make one nice shock.

I think cold weather is easier to overcome than the rear shock. I can understand the money issue. I've spent enough on booze this past year that I could have bought a good Ohlins rear shock for my bike. I don't have any advice to offer because I don't

Well I quit my monthly ritual of replenishing my Lagavulin stock about 6 months ago so that savings should go toward the shock. If I had quit a year ago then the Ohlins would be sittin on the backside of the Cat right now. I will either have the shock

Hopefully the custom route won't cost you too much. Probably the best way to go. Sorry to see your riding season get cut short.

I'm guessing it will cost about what a new OEM shock would cost ($450 - $600) vs. $1000 for a completely new aftermarket shock (Ohlins/ Hypertech)

Good to see you didn't get hurt when it blew, could have been bad in the "right" situation. I'm not sure myself what to do for winter. Right now I don't have much "extra" on bike footage. Will have to come up with something motorcycle related. I was

That would probably be a good idea. Just to keep things going. I was thinking maybe a how to series of maintanence while the bike is on the stand.
