This video means a lot to me for several reasons. First, and most obvious, the backdrop is the site of the 9-11 terrorist attacks against the United States more...as well as against the ideals of freedom. Second, I hold family and friends in the highest regards and this flight to New York was one of the few instances where I found myself with both my sister Ruthie and one of my best friends since high school, Dave the pilot/instructor, both of whom I rarely get the chance to spend any time with. Third, and least obvious, as a videomaker, it was important for me to do something special with this rather ordinary footage. I attempted to capture the feeling of loss as we flew over "ground zero" and at the same time, capture the beauty of flight, the beauty of my sister, and the general feeling of timelessness one experiences while in flight.
Mom does not like the idea of Ruthie flying with us in "dangerous" airplanes so we had to sneak her with us to New York. less
