Hitler burned the Reichstag and then suspended the rule of law indefinitely. The Gestapo was the secret police force [SS] that eliminated dissidents and imprisoned opponents.
They no longer play those films about Hitler on the History channel. They do not want people to be able to make a comparison between today and actual history. They might see history is repeating itself, as it always does.
Once things get to this point, they tend to escalate very quickly. less
