While the Tail of the Dragon certainly has it's share of accidents, especially on summer weekends, I wouldn't go there assuming that you'll be involved in an incident. It's not a demolition derby after all (although, the Tree Of Shame might suggest otherwise!).

Ride within your limits, look ahead, stay alert, and you'll (probably) be just fine. Have fun! :)

Frame sliders are very worthwhile for any bike.

the idiots that go out there and go balls to the wall will scare the hell out of you, at first. When I was there last year I was pretty much in last of our 4 man group the whole time, and every sportbike there was passing me like I was going backwards.

After the first run or two, you get used to it, you learn how to watch your mirrors with your peripheral vision so they don't sneak up on you too badly, and for the most part there's enough room out there to keep people from coming around a corner at mach 3 and rear ending you. Generally they saw you enter the turn and are prepared for you to be there as they come through it. Didn't have any bikers run wide on us, but the cages do it quite a bit. I think that road is one of the few where outside-inside-outside on a left hand turn is actually a really bad idea. I almost lost me head via a Vette side mirror because I was on the inside portion of the left turn, and he went about a foot wide.

First he tells me to bring a dinged up bike and then tells me about all the wrecks .... : )
Honestly it's being fixed and equipped with sliders ...they tell me it'll be fixed in time so I should be there but I'm sure it'll be Wednesday instead of Monday

Take the damn fairings off and ride it out there. Tell people it's an ER-6N that you had imported from Europe because you think the 650r with the fairings is ugly as shit. SOMEONE will fall for it, I'm sure...

I wasn't really sure how bad the damage was. Mine is scraped up but pretty much intact. I've put about 1700 miles on it after the crash.
Glad to hear you're getting it fixed in time of the trip. I hope to make it up there for a day or two but I'll probably

BTW when trucking it up to get it fixed the ferring was flopping all around and I wouldn't want to risk a 650 mile trip with crapped up ferrings let alone what else might be wrong. If I was right there I would do it no doubt.

I agree with the advice, but it is too late. Super encouragement, btw! LOL.
You forgot about the big trucks that take up both lanes on all the turns.
