ukrider, they really aren't crap. I've had mine for almost a year now. That little 650 takes all of my friends' 600s in any corner and they have been riding 3 years to what I have under my belt.
This bike is only lacking a higher top-end(cap @ around

140 give or take) (which is worthless unless u plan on getting tickets!!!) and a good front end (oh which can be fixed by thicker shock ab. oil)(30 dollar fix) Oh and that crappy stock can? It can be fixed with a a quick mufflerectomy! ZERO COST!!
I've ridden many 600s and prefer my sv over them, why? Because that little bike brings up cornering and stability more to me than a 600 could hold a candle to. People call the SV unforgiving in the corners when its anything but! It's common sense that a lowend torque bike will be more stable through corners than a bike that needs 8k revs to stay steady in a corner. The sv is an easier sitting, tighter set frame. Plus the vtwin aspect is something of a acquired taste that I truly enjoy.
So sure, they are "crap" if crap means an awesome bike. The price is nothing to leave out either!!!! You pay around 6k brand new for an SV whereas you pay 30-40& more for higher spedo numbers and fancy farings? Give me a break.
You take an experienced rider on a SV to a literbike on the track, that SV will pass the liter EVERY time in the corners. Theres something to be said about the SV and it is definately by no means crap. By the way this is coming from a K6 owner. If your fixing on buying lower than K3, consider something with FI rather than carbing it, ull be spending more time messin with the carbs than out on the bike!

I bought mine brand new because it was silly cheap 4300. I covered some 6-thousand road miles on it, and whilst it wasn't a bad bike, you do get what you pay for. Let me explain my point...
Now the SV isn't a bad bike for 4k, in fact I'd say it's the

best bike you can get for handling and fun, for THAT kind of money. I do think they make for an excellent, cheap, track day tool, so long as you sort that piss poor suspension out.
But for a main road bike? To go from a busa to an SV650? Yeah right. He'll be bored with it in about a week. SV's ARE slow, gutless, and their suspension is a joke. YES v-twins are great at getting power down whilst exiting a bend, and sure, the bouncy bits can be sorted, but why would you even bother?
Don't get me wrong, I bought one and it did the job. But would I sell a busa to buy an SV650? No f***ing way! I'd buy a Ducati instead. :)
You just can't even expect a 4k SV to compare with a 9k superbike. Period.

DON'T GET AN SV! They're crap - I should know, I had one in 2006. You should think about a quality ride like a VFR800, or a BMWF800s ???
Neither are quick, but they both offer so much more bike than an SV. Please, don't do it. You'll regret it.

I agree with you in the sense that if money is not an option to go for something ofcourse better than an SV but for such a low price when you compare a 600 to a 650, really all there is, is more power.
-I agree! with buying a ducati but thats a whole

SVs are nice. Cheap to sort of the suspension, easy to pimp out, great for track days, good on the street.
I love mine. 88Hawaii - yellow is definitely the color to get. Is that a K4?

I think I am forever in love with the SV650, because I purchased a used one that was worked on by Mike Rice (used to race w/ Freddie Spencer). That was one BAD mutha, and unbelievably fast. I am fond of the SV650 bikes, but they do have to be tuned
