I heard the CEO of Yahoo on Charlie Rose once, talking about how to "monetize" web content. Dreadful word, but he's a CEO, not a poet. After LV builds up enough traffic, then they will monetize somehow.Due to busy season at work, I have not produced

much new video output lately, but I find that more people are watching and commenting on the older ones. I don't know if that is perception or reality, but it seems so.Also, I made a video about the YT/Viacom tensions in October. In the wake of the recent breach between the two, that video is suddenly getting more views than any other. Everything old is new again.

Morfeene.... One of the disciplines I have observed is understanding the subjective and objective nature of video criticism. We can objectively critique video for what it is, or, we can impose subjectivity on the film maker if we feel they are out of

line personally. Awareness of what we are letting our emotions do to us while viewing each others videos is extremely important when making comments to others.

Yes indeed - it is a learning experience for all of us. But we will get there as we build our ties to each other

Only fifteen comment?! Maybe I should consider myself lucky that I haven't yet had to take my shoes off to count my comments!

Shelf life depends on the content of the video. If we are making general videos, they have a longer shelf life than straight vlogs. I think my sightseeing videos can stay up for ages, whereas I would probably delete my vlogs after a few months, in order
more...
to clean up.
But what you obviously mean is when to put up a new vid, because most of the people who are going to see your last video have seen it. Personally, I like to put out a video every 2-3 days.
I get more response to my videos if I pose questions than if I am just "a talking head". Then again, it also depends on the content. Some people like this, others that. It varies quite a bit WHICH of my subscribers leave comments on my various vids.
LV has a pretty big company behind them. I am pretty sure that they are figuring out how to generate income. I don't know if Shatner is paying to be on here - or if they are paying HIM to be on here! He's a pretty good viewer-magnet.
But, really, I don't see any point in speculating about how they are going to make money. They listen to us users, so I think they will listen to us about how to implement whatever they figure out. In the mean time, I think we should relax and enjoy the way it is now :-)
Seeya!

Wow! - thanks for the comment. Yes - asking questions gets better responses as I can see here on this video. I am really enjoying the ride at LV - it is a SO much better experience for me over here, and we are (in my opinion) at the beginning of a REVOLUTION

- online video will EXPLODE with loads of different opportunities. I might make a video with my thoughts about that.

I guess it depends on the content of the video. To start with I was simply using my channel name in the tags with maybe one or two additional words. But because a lot of my vids are outside/nature/location specific, I went back and added more relevant
more...
tags to them eg StAndrews, Scotland, Scottish, Dundee etc and the St Andrews Drivaround video is now taking hits daily! 1300 and counting! Granted, event specific videos will suffer - Halloween, Christmas and Burns Night in particular, but again, since I added things like 'Land Rover' to some videos, it attracts a wider extra-subscriber audience and so I will leave them there for good.

Thanks! - that is useful advice about the tagging - I'll get on it sir! :-) I'm just lazy with my tagging

I realise I was stating the obvious there, but it has certainly increased the longivity of some of my older vids quite considerably.

Thanks Josef - we are learning how to use this medium aren't we? I am convinced we are at the beginning of a revolution in the way the world interacts - it will be an interesting experience for sure

Misunderstandings also arise because with YT "triendships", not only are we not always awere of cultural, linguistic differences..but we generally are also not aware of the personal history...I mean ..the real history of the person we are addressing,
more...
or the effects our videos can have on people we may not even know.
..And even less, do some commenters..who see the video totally out of context, but jumo into a discussion, bandwagon, ar times with little thought, often quite without any understanding of more then the last video...In the last tragic misunderstanding ..I believe, past traumatic history entered the picture..triggert poverful reactions...Granted..we, video posters can not know ...but ,my be we can all learn from this that, if we encounter very unexpected poverful reactions, fom someone we know to be a kind person...it may be good idea, to consider that we might have inadvertently hit an extremely raw nerve in the viewer...and use judegement and compassion in our counter response...if one is needed

Yes indeed. It is a learning experience for me and a useful one. Many interactions I am experiencing here are helping me in real life as well in my day-to-day conversations with colleagues. I shall endeavor to learn well. Thanks for the comment - I appreciate

I'd say LiveVideo at some point will be taken over by one of the heavyweights. Yahoo being the most likely candidate, but probably there's a whole host of names. Longevity of videos. Yep, I think most people, myself included experience what your talking

about as far as mainly getting views/comments the first few days. Personally the 2 videos which have had the most shelf life for me are my video (which I know you familiar with because you left me a video response on it) about "My Search For A Halfway Decent Webcam" and my video entitled "Windows Movie Maker Sucks" So thats 2 somewhat technically oriented videos which still draw an occasional stray comment. So I'd say technically oriented and/or how-to type of videos would have a longer shelf life. One thing to keep in mind (and I actually kinda hate to admit this) is that if a person had made a lot of that type of videos over a long period of time, I could see it getting to be a chore if every day you got a dozen comments on a dozen older videos. I mean I still go back and respond to comments on those videos, but in many cases it's just me repeating what I've said in earlier comments which the new commenter apparently hasn't read yet.

I am tempted to make some "How To" videos as I am a technical person. I probably will do a couple. I also experience the fact that people do not read the other comments and I find myself repeating what I have said to earlier comments - ha! ha! - I do
