You know, I like, HAVE projects that are mid-way done. I'm just...SO BUSY! I swear I'll get them done...eventually. It's not MY fault I'm getting an engineering degree and need to study so much it's ridiculous. It's not MY fault I decided to switch my major way too late and end up being rather behind. And it's DEFINITELY not my fault that I need to work on some non-Avatar videos for my sister's graduation (they're so awesome, I wish I could show them   more...to you all but...you know, privacy and all that). So yeah...okay, it is my fault, but I promise they'll be done EVENTUALLY! :)  less

If anyone's curious, I'm making a Day of Black Sun trailer in December (I've got to return from Europe and finish final exams first!) and I already have it all planned out and it's going to be BADASS!

I think I'm going into video-making retirement...mostly because I've run out of ideas. If one hits me I might go for it but...I also might not :)

Okay, I've gotten a few questions about how I did the whole black-and-white-and-a-little-splash-of-color thing in my video, so I decided to make...

Umeko's Quick and Dirty Guide to Having Those Wonderfully Awesome Black/White/Color Shots in Movies (UQDGHTWABWCSM)!

--First, I never actually colored the video, always just stills from the video (doing this technique with video would take FOREVER--think about it, you'd have to color EVERY FRAME).

--So first, find a still picture. If you used Windows Movie   more...Maker like me, just click the "Take Picture" button under the preview screen and save the picture somewhere. Make sure this picture is in color!

--Next, open the picture up in a photo editting program (not Microsoft Paint--I'm not sure if you CAN do this in Paint, maybe you can, but I doubt it. I used Paint Shop Pro 7).

--Use the freehand or point-to-point selection tool to select what parts of the picture you want uncolored. OR you can also select what parts you WANT colored, and then go to Selections-->Invert. Basically, if you're coloring a small area (like eyes) it's easier to just select the eyes and then invert the selection, but if you're selecting something big like...the sky or something, it's easier just to select the sky. So basically, you want to select what will be in black and white.

--Go to the Colorize option, in PSP7 it's under Colors-->Colorize, it might be different for other programs. Set the hue and saturation to zero (basically getting rid of all color). Voila! Your picture is in black, white AND color!

--Sometimes the edges of the colored parts look bad, you can either select the troublesome areas and fix them one by one by repeating the colorize thing, or use the retouch tool (saturation down) to fix it.

--If you're using Window's Movie Maker then the picture should be somewhere under your collections and will update automatically to the new version of the picture. Drag in onto your timeline and VOILA you have a MASTERPIECE! I recommend doing some sort of fade if you're transitioning from black and white to color so it doesn't look weird.
