 | | | | | | | THE 'L - - - ' WORD 02:10 What is it, the “L---“ word?
Can it be measured?
How many teaspoons equal one touch?
Can you time it? when it starts and stops?
Does it more...come and go through a seive?
Is it a mountain of grain with a few weevil husks thrown in, to be sifted out later?
Does a mother’s come by the gallon?
Is a daughter’s a batter of baking powder and sourdough with a drizzle of maple syrup on top? Does fermentation help? How many litres equal 62 contractions?
Is ‘need’ the leavening agent? Will love rise higher if it is not kneaded?
Does 1/4 litre of need equal 2/3 C of pain?
Can we make a cake out of it? A birthday cake?
Does being both a mother and a daughter require you to double the recipe?
Does discussion clarify, like butter brought to high heat, separating milk solids from the pure gold?
What the hell is it, anyway
Should we be thinking about it at all, or just take it with a grain of salt.

| Monday, January 21, 2008 at 11:24 PM | | My daughter Carla has a friend from Chennai, Gopal, who works with her at Oracle. He contacted his friend Karthi who is here in Chennai. He spent the morning with me, took me to the hospital, just to get a final OK that I can travel. More spine xrays. Sure is crooked. No MRI though. Says it is ok. Just get up and walk, often. (For 30 hours) At least it is not dangerous.

| Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2:11 AM | | WEDNESDAY ARRIVAL Arrived in Madrasat noon. Went to Singapore Airline Office and poured it on thick. All about the 'accident', the ruptured vertebrae, (but I suspect just looking at me was enough). I leave tomorrow night, Tues. A wheelchair has been ordered. The man behind the desk said "I didn't mention anything about your injuries, just said you were elderly". OK, I don't care what the basis is. I saw many other people there trying to get on standby and were told week or 2.

| Friday, January 18, 2008 at 8:40 PM | | I just booked a flight to Madras for Monday morning.. Have to go there to pick up some stuff I left at the hotel. Monday morning I will try to arrange an asap flight with Singapore. Things are getting so bad that I feel like I might not even make it. Need an MRI. May have a ruptured disc which the x-ray did not show. Could have affected the nervous system. Worse at night. Can barely dress myself. | |
| Thursday, January 17, 2008 at 8:04 PM | | EARLY RETURN?
I should probably make plans to come home sooner (while I still can). whatever it is that is wrong with me , it seems to be progressing, arms, even the wrists, one was sprained already, now the other feels the same. Still in Ernakulam. Last night I had to listen to the midnight drumming - chenda malam- in my room, since even rolling over in my bed was almost impossible. The ibuprofen doesn't seem to be doing much anymore.
I'll keep you posted. Certainly a new experience. | |
