 | | | | | | | A "pure witch"...I am not entirely certain as to what you are referring to here; however, I will attempt to answer this, having been a Witch (or at least more...a Wiccan...one of many thousands of people within the religion of Witchcraft) for nearly 20 years now...
When referring to "purity" regarding Witchcraft, or any religious philosophy, system of beliefs, or a way of life, in truth, no one may truly lay claim to such "purity". Even those who may well have been raised within a familial sect based upon religious underpinnings within one sect or another, the fact remains that our nature, as human beings, lends its credence toward a tendency toward a questioning of our beliefs. Whether this person is of the Strega, for example, it is sheer human nature that we will give question to that system of beliefs that we have been raised within. Even Christians who have been raised within a solely Christian environment have these questions of faith, and this is, for a large part, that which makes us stronger in our faith, for only by questioning it may we come into a greater understanding of that faith.
Purity of faith, purity of being, purity of any other sort is something that we strive toward, but it is simply not something that we may fully achieve. Even as regards racial characteristics, we may well know who our mother is, and through genealogical study may we truly know who our father is, the fact remains that purity, even of race, is something that becomes a matter of question. My own family heritage, for example, is one that is a mixture of Celtic and Native American lineage. I am neither "pure" Irish, nor pure Scots, pure French, or pure Choctaw, but a blending of these racial characteristics. Similarly, my family is of Druidic, Native American Shamanic, Protestant Christian and Catholic descent.
Purity is what we make of it. In other words, it is purity of thought, of mind, of spirit, but no one in existence today may truly lay claim to purity of race or religion, whatever the race or religion may well be. Like the understanding of Divinity Itself, there are simply too many unknown and unknowable variables. This is not a hindrance, but instead enriches us if we are mature enough to look beyond the differences and instead embrace the diversity. less | Last reply Apr 8, 07 by ShadowCatXIII |
