BAYTOWN, Texas -- Four teenagers died and two others were injured when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a train on Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said the wreck happened just west of Baytown on East Archer Road near Fleming Drive at about 4:30 a.m.
Investigators said the driver of a Jeep Cherokee, which was reported stolen, slammed into the side of a train that Union Pacific officials said was not moving.
Detectives said the male driver started braking about 35 feet from the tracks.
"There were some short skid marks," Lt. John Martin said. "It would appear the driver noticed the train immediately before impact, but not early enough to stop hitting the train."
The Jeep went under a tanker car and ended up in a ditch, deputies said.
Four of the teens, three girls and one boy between the ages of 12 and 16, died at the scene, investigators said. Doug Moyers said his daughter, 12-year-old Loral Moyers, and her cousin, 14-year-old Macy Ann Moyers, were two of the victims. less
