Helen and her sister Rita were soliciting motorists for prostitution outside the toilets at the far end of the street on that night. It was their safety mechanism of avoiding the Ripper who had murdered 5 girls in Leeds and Bradford. The police hunt was concentrating on motorists to catch the Ripper, a fatal flaw in the investigation. Billy Tracey took a half hour flight from Dublin to Manchester that day, having left his home town in the Irish Midlands a few hours earlier by train. He was on business to murder a prostitute in Huddersfield to taunt George Oldfield. He arrived by taxi outside Huddersfield Railway Station after dark and got a local taxi to show him where he could find a prostitute. A stocky well dressed man was seen lurking in the toilets at the crucial time. He was never traced.

This was Billy Tracey . He emerged from the toilets immediately after Helen was returned by a punter and propositioned her with an offer of big money for a few minutes to masturbate him. There was evidence of the rare B secretor semen found by police on the victim just like Joan Harrison in Preston.

While all this was going on Rita, her sister, was dropped back at the corner by her customer where she expected to find Helen. Anxiously waiting for her she would not go with any of the motorists who were cruising around looking for sex . When Tracey had performed his ritual injuries and rearranged the victims body and clothing theatrically and was ready to go, he found there was a lot more activity outside because Rita was staying there, and motorists were driving around the block trying to pick her up. She was agitated and attracting attention. The police squad might arrive at any time and could drive into the gateway searching for Helen if Rita told them the story. He was in a tight spot. He probably waited quite a time before deciding to change his plan. Wittnesses say the man was seen a few times over a period of about 2 hours.

He returned to the body .He took off her tights and pulled them over his hands to hide his fingerprints.

Then he dragged her away from the visible area and lifted her over a stack of timber and covered her body with a sheet of asbestos. She was hidden from easy view. Then he wiped his prints from his hammer and knife with her panties and hurled them to the railway embankment as well as her shoes . He tidied himself up and with Rita still standing forlornly at the corner waiting and hoping Helen had gone with a motorist and would return soon, he walked away towards the town centre only minutes walk away, when he saw a lull in the traffic.

At the Station toilets he washed and tidied himself before stepping outside and getting into a taxi to Manchester. He stayed in a B & B overnight and returned to Dublin the next morning and home.

Ladybower was built between 1935 and 1943, and took a further two years to fill (1945). The Dam differs from the other two as it is a clay cored earth embankment, and not a solid masonry   more...dam, as the others. Below the Dam is a cut off trench 180 ft deep and 6 ft wide filled with concrete, stretching into the hills each side 500ft, to stop water leaking round the dam. The building of the dam wall was undertaken by the Scottish company of Richard Baillie and Sons. The two viaducts, Ashopton and Ladybower, needed to carry the trunk roads over the reservoir, were built by the London firm of Holloways, using a steel frame clad in concrete. Both firms encountered mounting problems when the Second World War broke out in 1939 making labour and raw materials scarce. This extended the proposed build time, but was carried on due to the strategic importance of maintaining supplies. The opening ceremony for the reservoir was carried out on Tuesday September 25, 1945 by King George VI accompanied by Queen Elizabeth.

During the 1990s the wall was raised and strengthened to reduce the risk of 'over-topping' in a major flood. The original dam wall contains 100,000 tons of concrete, over one million tons of earth and 100,000 tons of clay for the core. The upstream face being stone faced. Materials were brought in via the Derwent Valley Water Board's own branch line to the site and their sidings off the main line in the Hope Valley.

The dam's design is peculiar in having two totally enclosed bellmouth overflows (locally named the 'plugholes') at the side of the wall. These are stone and of 80 ft Dia. with outlets of 15 ft dia. that each discharge via its own valve house at the base of the dam. The overflows originally had walkways around them but they were dismantled many years ago.  less

The Yorkshire Dales (also   more...known as "The Dales") is the name given to an upland area, in Northern England.

The area lies within the historic county boundaries of Yorkshire, though it spans the ceremonial counties of North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, and Cumbria. Most of the area falls within the Yorkshire Dales District National Park, created in 1954, and now one of the twelve National parks of England and Wales (not including the South Downs which is due to become one).

The Dales is a collection of river valleys and the hills in between them, rising from the Vale of York westwards to the hilltops of the main Pennine watershed (the British English meaning). In some places the area even extends westwards across the watershed, but most of the valleys drain eastwards to the Vale of York—into the Ouse and then the Humber.

"Dale" comes from a Nordic/Germanic word for valley, and occurs in valley names across Yorkshire (and northern England generally) but since the creation of the Yorkshire Dales National park, the name "Yorkshire Dales" has come to refer specifically to these western dales (the area of dales and hills EAST of the Vale of York is now always called the "North York Moors" after the National Park created there). Confusingly, the Yorkshire Dales have plenty of moors, too.
Most of the dales in the Yorkshire Dales are named after their river or stream (eg Arkengarthdale, formed by Arkle Beck). The best-known exception to this rule is Wensleydale, which is named after the town of Wensley rather than the River Ure, although an older name for the dale is Yoredale. In fact, valleys all over Yorkshire are called "(name of river)+dale"—but only the more northern Yorkshire valleys (and only the upper, rural, reaches) are included in the term "The Dales". For example, the southern boundary area lies in Wharfedale and Airedale. The lower reaches of these valleys are not usually included in the area, and Calderdale much further south, would never normally be referred to as part of "The Dales" even though it is a dale, is in Yorkshire, and the upper reaches are as scenic and rural as many valleys further north.

Geographically, the classical Yorkshire Dales spread to the north from the market and spa towns of Settle, Deepdale near Dent, Skipton, Ilkley and Harrogate in North Yorkshire, with most of the larger southern dales (e.g. Ribblesdale, Malhamdale and Airedale, Wharfedale and Nidderdale) running roughly parallel from north to south. The more northerly dales (e.g. Wensleydale, Swaledale and Teesdale) running generally from west to east. There are also many other smaller or lesser known dales (e.g. Arkengarthdale, Barbondale, Bishopdale, Clapdale, Coverdale, Dentdale and Deepdale, Garsdale, Kingsdale, Littondale, Langstrothdale, Raydale, Waldendale and the Washburn Valley) whose tributary streams and rivers feed into the larger valleys.

The characteristic scenery of the "Dales" is green upland pastures separated by dry-stone walls and grazed by sheep and cattle. The dales themselves are 'U' and 'V' shaped valleys, which were enlarged and shaped by glaciers, mainly in the most recent, Devensian ice age. The underlying rock is principally Carboniferous limestone (which results in a number of areas of limestone pavement) in places interspersed with shale and sandstone and topped with millstone grit. However, to the north of the Dent fault, the hills are principally older Silurian and Ordovician rocks, which make up the Howgill Fells.  less
