The economic meltdown is drying up tax revenues faster than anyone expected, forcing 22 states to confront serious budget deficits. Some states already have eliminated jobs and services - and more cuts   more...are likely, according to the Los Angeles Times. The new shortfalls, totaling at least $11.2 billion, come just months after numerous states enacted belt-tightening measures while writing yearly budgets. Officials also adjusted their revenue projections downward to account for the slowing economy. But in many cases, the actual revenue for the first quarter of the fiscal year, which began July 1, has proven to be even lower. The gaps "will almost certainly widen" as tax revenues continue to drop, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a Washington, D.C., think tank that compiled the state data in a report this month. Economists and other observers fear the numbers may signal the onset of a historic fiscal crisis for state governments. "States have been confronted with bad economic circumstances in the past, but never so many states, all at once," said Bill Pound, executive director of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Rising layoffs are cutting into payroll taxes. The credit crisis and housing slump are affecting taxes levied on real estate deals. Sales taxes are shrinking as shoppers worried about the economy stay home. Every state in the union but Vermont legally requires a balanced budget, so state governments have begun cutting. The pain likely will spread beyond the state bureaucracies, as laid-off state workers and curtailed government spending help fuel a vicious economic cycle. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which typically takes a liberal view on policy issues, notes that as the economy declines, residents require more services from their state government, not fewer. Not to be confused with nearby “Westminster Abbey” of the Church of England, “Westminster Cathedral” is the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in either England or Wales. Construction began in 1895, and   more...the Byzantine style architectural style is HIGHLY distinctive in London. The interior of the cathedral is quite dark, but you can still see in these video clips some of the beauty of the architecture and can see the elaborately carved marble columns.

One of the highlights of a visit to this cathedral is that you can go to the top of the 273 foot tall cathedral tower and see some great views of London.

In the 1950's the Air Force defined them as "any airborne object which by performance, aerodynamic characteristics, or unusual features does not conform to any presently known aircraft or missile type, or which cannot be positively identified as a familiar object." There is no implication of origin inherent in the meaning of the word "UFO." It simply means "unidentified."

Pilotos y científicos llaman a reanudar investigación en EEUU sobre los OVNI?

WASHINGTON.- Pilotos militares y civiles, que afirman haber presenciado objetos voladores no identificados, así como científicos reunidos en Washington llamaron este lunes a las autoridades estadounidenses a reanudar oficialmente la investigación sobre los OVNI, abandonadas hace cerca de 40 años.

"Queremos que el gobierno estadounidense deje de perpetuar el mito de que existe una explicación lógica y convencional a todos los fenómenos OVNI. Nuestro país debe reanudar la investigación oficial que abandonó en 1969", declaró en una conferencia de prensa Fife Symington, ex gobernador del Estado de Arizona y ex piloto de la Fuerza Aérea, testigo personal de la aparición de un OVNI en 1997.

El llamado fue realizado por un grupo internacional de 19 pilotos, científicos y líderes políticos, que en su mayoría atestiguaron públicamente este lunes en Washington sobre su experiencia con un OVNI.

Entre ellos, un piloto retirado de la Fuerza Aérea, que cruzó en 1994 un "enorme disco volante" en un vuelo Niza-Londres, un piloto de un caza iraní que intentó en vano atacar a un OVNI en 1976, o un ex alto funcionario de la administración de la aviación civil (FAA), a quien se confiscó una investigación sobre un OVNI avistado en Alaska en 1987.

"Quién cree en los OVNI? es el tipo de actitud que toma sistemáticamente la FAA. Cuando pregunté a un alto funcionario de la CIA qué pensaba al respecto, me dijo: 'es realmente un OVNI, pero no se le puede decir a los estadounidenses, todo el mundo entraría en pánico'", declaró a la prensa.
