When I was born up in Wakefield, the train still ran on a regular basis. Now, it just carries tourists up to the village. The view from the very noisy restaurant (waiting for the music to start), onto the deck and across the Gatineau River. I was born in the hospital, then just the doctor's house with the back rooms fitted   more...out with a surgery and rooms for patients, just a few doors down the road from the Black Sheep. If you are in the area, you have to make the trip up, either by car or by the steam train that goes up from Ottawa.

I missed getting video of the train, though I did get some very blurry images of the engine and the cars as they rushed by. This is the second time I missed doing a video of the train. The last time, I was stopped at the level crossing as it pulled past, mere inches from my bumper. Unfortunately, while I could watch the video on my camera, I simply could not download it, even though I tried off an on for two days. Grrrrrrr....  less

My mother and a friend and I were in Wakefield, Quebec, two weeks ago and we discovered this graveyard, located up on the mountain behind the town. We were surprised to discover that it is the burial   more...place of one of my heroes, Lester B. Pearson, former Prime Minister of Canada, Nobel Peace Prize winner. OBE, architect of the United Nations, Peacemaker....

The mountain on which the cemetery is located, also happens also to be located just behind the building in which I was born, the former doctor's house/hospital.  less
