I generate anywhere from 4 to 11 MW of electricity with 3600rpm steam driven turbine generators

As it looks to save money, and keep up with its competitors, Siemens, Europe’s largest engineering company, is bracing to cut more than 17,000.

The Munich, based maker of wind turbines, trains, computers,   more...light bulbs, and numerous other products, has reported a 68% drop off in the 2nd quarter.

In order to meet goals of reducing costs by $1.9 Billion, Siemens needs to cut its work force by 4%. Which breaks down to 6,400 jobs in Germany, and 12,500 worldwide, that spans about 190 countries.

Thanks to a lagging economy, high costs, slumping stock prices, and the demand from it’s main competitor, GE, Siemens is left rethinking is strategy in the marketplace.

A plan that doesn’t help the 17,000 people out of work.

While they look to save in the immediate future, Siemens hopes to avoid further layoffs down the road.
