The 3D fighter, developed by Nintendo, Sora and Game Arts, is always at the tip-top of GameStats' most wanted list and these days it's also the most popular game on IGN thanks to readers like you. It's not difficult to understand why, either -- after all, the anticipated Wii brawler represents the culmination of Nintendo's beloved franchise; more characters, stages and options than ever before, not to mention enhanced graphics and addictive online-compatible multiplayer modes to boot. So now that we've vacationed 24 hours with the title, can we definitely say that the final experience is worth the wait? You better believe it. Obviously, we'll be slamming the site with Brawl related content over the next several weeks. Today, though, we're kicking off with our initial impressions of the fighting experience, as well some thoughts on our favorite characters thus far.

Brawl begins with a cinematic opening which introduces many of the trademark characters in the game. The quality of the render is pristine and the orchestrated music that accompanies helps set up the mood of the experience. Once you click over to the main menu, you are given several choices, including Group, Solo, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Vault, Options and Data. Interestingly, the interface is completely incompatible with the Wii remote's infrared pointer; rather, if you choose to play Brawl with the peripheral, you hold it classic style and use the D-Pad to navigate. (Amazingly, you can't even shoot at the end credits using infrared, which is unfortunate.) The different menu selectables aren't hard to follow, but we'll elaborate all the same. Group is designed for local multiplayer matches. Pick your characters, choose a stadium and have at it. Solo represents the single-player classic or adventure modes. In vault, you will find collectable trophies and stickers, your photo album ,the challenge board, instant replays you've saved, masterpieces (which houses classic Nintendo games), chronicle (a list of past and present Nintendo titles) and, of course the stage builder.

Very likely, the majority of your time with Nintendo's new fighter will be spent in the Group Brawl mode, which houses the four-player compatible local multiplayer mode. Here, you can choose from 30-plus characters, including familiar mascots like Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Samus, but also the likes of Lucas, Captain Olimar and the Pikmin, Pit from Kid Icarus, Zelda / Sheik, Ike, the Pokemon Trainer, Captain Falcon, Sonic the Hedgehog, Toon Link, Marth and Solid Snake. Unique move sets have been created for the majority of these characters so that, for example, Pikachu will execute a variety of different maneuvers from Captain Meta Knight, and so forth. If you've played any Smash Bros. title before, you already know all of this, we know, but supposing you're new to the franchise, Brawl is, like its predecessors, a seemingly simple fighter with a lot of hidden depth. While you have only a handful of different attacks (including variations) per character, you can do quite a lot with each character's skills and great timing is more important than in most other fighters on the market.

Several of us experimented with different control schemes. We tried everything from playing with the Wii remote to using the Wave Bird and the truth is that the Smash Bros. purists among us ultimately prefer sticking with a traditional controller despite the fact that with some practice you can become very effective with the Wii remote, too. The good news is that the title affords you the option to fully customize the layout of whichever controller you choose. Captain Falcon (Me) vs. White "DK" Beast (lvl 9 CPU)

Wolf appears to have the upper hand in the battle, but the beast keeps getting up after each hit. Too tired,   more...Wolf starts to slow down, and the beast lands a powerful punch on his face, slamming him on the ground. As Wolf is on the ground, he notices some vehicle coming towards him, and a man coming out.

Wolf: "Hey, you! Get over here, I need help!"

Surprisingly, by the time he finished his sentence, the man was already in front of him, knocking away the monster.

C. Falcon: "You called? You're a lucky guy, I got here just in time."
Wolf: "Wh-who are you?"
C. Falcon: "Captain Falcon's the name! I'll help you out with this thing."
Wolf: "Heh, good luck. That thing never goes down."
C. Falcon: "Heh, I guess you don't know who I am!"

With that, Wolf faints, and Falcon turns towards the monster.

C. Falcon: "Show me your moves!"

WITH MARTH AND THE OTHERS...

Being stranded for a long time, Fox became very hungry, and began to slow down. He continued on, however. His mind was occupied with Wolf.

Marth: "We're almost there. Just a little longer, everyone. Hang in there."
Ike: "That's easy for you to say. My sword is so heavy..."
Marth: "Then save your breath."

Fox's mind continued to wonder about Wolf. It was the end of their rivalry... or so he thought.

*Battle Begins*  less

Fox (Me) taking on a very small part of the SSE. Doing the whole run might take over 10 mins... the difficulty was normal.

Fox and Ike are both still up. Ike takes out   more...the communicator. It was broken from the battle.

Ike: "No! Why didn't you listen?!"
Fox: "What?"
Ike: "I was trying to TAKE you guys back to your ship! But the communicator is broken! I'm lost, just like you guys..."

Silence for a bit, then Wolf speaks up.

Wolf: "Oh, GREAT JOB, Fox. We could've been back. Now we're STILL lost, thanks to you!"
Fox: "Sorry, guys..."
Marth: "There is no time to fight amongst each other. The road to Altea is harsh. We should go now."

Fox sighs, and follows Marth and Wolf.

Ike: "Wait!"

The three stop and turn to Ike.

Ike: "Please, let me go with you. I wish to help you, still."
Marth: "You seem to have good intentions. Very well. However, we will not show you mercy if you betray us."

Ike nods, and follows. Marth leads the others to a door, which seems to go into another area.

Marth: "This door can take us to a road that leads to Altea."
Wolf: "Well, come on, let's go!"
Marth: "One moment. Wolf, are you familiar with those purple creatures?"
Wolf: "Yeah, so?"
Marth: "A large amount of them lurk on this road, in different forms. Everyone, be careful."

Wolf heads towards the door, but Marth pulls him back.

Marth: "One more thing. There are some objects that seem to appear out of nowhere, too. Use them to your advantage."

With that, the four head through the door, and start the road to Altea. Fox, being the fastest, is chosen as the first person, with the other three backing him up.  less

WITH IKE...

Ike is dropped off, and starts his search for Fox and Wolf on Yoshi's Island.

Ike: "This island is full of strange creatures...   more...It'll be hard finding those two."

BACK WITH MARTH AND GANONDORF...

Marth and Ganondorf collapse. However, Ganondorf points at Marth before faining. Shadow Bugs start to appear and head towards Marth. Exhausted, Marth cannot fight back. The Shadow Bugs then come off of Marth, but in a dark form of him. They then walk towards Fox and Wolf. It made a monstrous noise, supposedly a laugh, as it walked towards them. This noise, however, awakened Wolf.

Wolf quickly gets up, and notices both Marth and Ganondorf on the ground. He notices the cuts on Ganondorf, and realizes Marth was trying to save them.

Wolf: "Looks like that sword guy wasn't so bad after all..."

Another disgusting laugh from the Marth-Thing gets Wolf's attention.

Wolf: "So sword-guy got copied like I did, huh? I wonder what the heck those things are..."

The Marth-Thing then took out its sword, pointing it at Wolf.

Wolf: "You know, this day couldn't get any weirder. You picked a fight with me on the wrong day, bub!"

*Battle Begins*  less

Marth (Me) vs. Ganondorf (lvl 9 CPU)

Lol, pwnage.

ON THE GREAT FOX...

Falco: "Ugh... too strong..."
Ike: "You fought well. I now see the error of my ways.   more...I shall apologize to your leader."

Ike brings Falco with him, and goes into the Great Fox. He encounters Peppy and Slippy.

Ike: "I'm sorry for the damage I've caused, I was just being cautious."
Peppy: "So YOU did it, huh?"
Ike: "Yes. Is there anything I can do to help?"
Peppy: "Well, we've lost connection with two of our members. I think they're still at that island..."
Ike: "Very well, how shall I get there?"
Peppy: "Slippy will take you. It'll be cramped, but he can get you there."

Slippy takes Ike to Yoshi's island. Ike begins the mission to retrieve Fox and Wolf...

ON YOSHI'S ISLAND...

Fox and Wolf collapse. They have reached their limit. However, Marth and Ganondorf manage to get up with difficulty.

Marth: "Those two fought with honor... I must have been wrong."
Ganondorf: "Ha! They have been defeated! After I finish you, I'll kill those two!"
Marth: "No... ones who fight with honor should not be killed in such a manner... I'll defend them with my life!"
Ganondorf: "Honor? I could care less about that!"
Marth: "No... I'll use the last of my energy to defeat you!"

*Battle Begins*  less

Wolf (Me, 100% Handicap) + Fox (lvl 9 CPU, 100% Handicap) vs. Marth (lvl 9 CPU, 30 % Handicap) vs. Ganondorf (lvl 9 CPU)

Sorry for no perspective, I HAD to show how I got saved.

  more...As Wolf and Fox are flying back towards the Great Fox, one of the Wolfen's wings are cut by a quick flash, and Wolf goes down, back onto the island. The Arwing stops and looks around, but is soon also cut by a flash. The two land close to each other.

Fox: "No, my communicator is broken, too!"
Wolf: "Great, I'm lost with my biggest enemy..."
Fox: "I'd think you would have gotten used to it by now..."

Suddenly, the figure that hit the two reveals himself, blade in hand.

Marth: "I am Marth. I have seen your cruelty to these poor animals, and I intend to serve justice."
Fox: "Heh, you don't understand. There are too much of them, so we had to get rid of some of them." Fox was trying to steer away from a fight. Him and Wolf were in no shape to fight.

Marth: "Even if it were true, they are living creatures, just as you and I. Would you kill your own kind?!"

Marth slowly raises his sword, about to kill Fox and Wolf, but right before he lunges towards them, he is shot in the back by a dark energy. Wolf and Fox quickly remember who it is.

Ganondorf: "Ha! Such a fool. They may be a living creatures, but they are lesser compared to me!"

Marth turns around and quickly gets up. Ganondorf pays no attention and looks at Fox and Wolf.

Ganondorf: "And you two... I said that I wouldn't let you escape, didn't I?"
Wolf: "Hah! We escaped! And you won't stop us now! Neither will pretty boy over there!"
Fox: "Wolf, did you just say 'us', and not just yourself?"
Wolf: "That's right, I always told you that I was gonna be the one who'll take you down."

*Battle Begins*  less

As Wolf and Fox head back towards the Great Fox, Peppy and the others have their own problems.

Peppy: "Aw, great. There's someone on the roof, breaking everything."
Slippy: "I knew we couldn't   more...trust Wolf!"
Peppy: "Actually, Wolf is still headed here. It isn't him."
Slippy: "Really? Well, who is it, then?"
Peppy: "I'm not sure, however, we are flying above unknown land. We may have never seen them before."
Slippy: "Oh... Well, he can't be good if he's trashing the top of the Great Fox."
Peppy: "Exactly. Falco, will you -"
Falco: "I'm on it, Chief. Let's see how the people fight around here."

Falco heads up, on top of the Great Fox, and quickly notices who is doing it. He wields a weapon that Falco isn't familiar with.

Ike: "So, you're wielding one of THOSE weapons, too."
Falco: "Yeah, it's called a blaster. Who are you, and what are you doing to our ship?"
Ike: "My name is Ike... and I was sent here to destroy this... thing."
Falco: "But we didn't do anything."
Ike: "There's only one reason something with such power could be flying above this land... to destroy it."
Falco: "What? We're just passing by!"
Ike: "It's so obvious, especially since you just lied. But, before I slay you, what is your name?"
Falco: "Falco Lombardi... it's the last name you'll ever hear!"

*Battle Begins*  less

Trying out the angle changing for replays... Link is a lvl 9 CPU

After defeating the fake wolf, the shadow bugs retreat, and Wolf pulls out his communicator.

Wolf: "Yo, Leon, Panther, you won't believe me, but I'm on the Great Fox. Pick me up."

Nobody responds   more...after a minute. Wolf realizes that his communicator is dead. He'll have to stay with Star Fox. With the last of his energy, Wolf brings Fox and Falco in with him, inside the Great Fox. As this happens, Wario and Bowser retreat.

THE NEXT DAY...

Peppy: "I don't see why you're staying with us, Wolf, but I do thank ya for saving Fox and Falco."
Slippy: "Yeah, Wolf, you must be a good guy or something now!"
Wolf: "I had no choice, my communicator broke. I have to stay with you punks now."
Peppy: "Oh? Well, we'll test it out."

Slippy runs off with the communicator, and comes back minutes later.

Slippy: "It seems broken, but Wolf is smart. Perhaps he somehow cloaked detection?"
Peppy: "Well, Wolf, if that's the case, we can't let you be spying on us, and letting your buddies catch us off guard. I have a mission for you, to build some trust between us."

Wolf doesn't respond, but doesn't really care, either. In truth, his communicator was broken.

Peppy: "I'll drop you and Fox off at a nearby island. There are some rather odd... dinosaurs there, and there are a little too much, which could cause a problem with the island's food supply. You and Fox will need to take them down."
Wolf: "Why not just ask birdbrain over there?"
Peppy: "This is a 'test' to make sure you aren't pulling anything. If that communicator isn't broken, you'll probably hold Fox hostage."

About an hour later, Wolf and Fox are dropped off at Yoshi's Island.

Fox: "Wolf, let's split up. We can take more down faster this way."

Wolf grumbles, but does so. Shortly after, he encounters three strange creatures.

Wolf: "Heh, here we go."  less

Bowser and Wario collapse, but Bowser is still awake. As Falco and Fox are about to deliver the final blow, they also collapse, but are both awake.

Falco: "Damn, I can't move..."
Fox: "Heh...   more...well, at least we won."

However, Bowser slowly raises his arm, and points towards Wolf's trophy. Shadow Bugs suddenly appear and cover Wolf. A Dark form of Wolf then appears. Before he faints, Bowser laughs, and faints.

Falco: "Crap... if only I could've taken that stupid turtle down earlier."
Fox: "No... we have a last resort, too!"

Falco seems confused. but Fox crawls towards Wolf's trophy and hits it lightly. Wolf is then brought back to normal state. Afterwards, Fox also faints.

Falco: "Aw, man! Two wolves, and Fox is out! I'm screwed now!"

Wolf ignores Falco, and looks around. He remembers Bowser and Wario. However, he doesn't recognize the other figure... it appears almost exactly like him.

Wolf: "Ok... you took down all of my prey." Wolf takes a quick look at Fox.

The Wolf-Thing laughs... it's not human, or animal for that matter, though.

Wolf: "And now, you try to take my identity. Well, then, I can't forgive that, can I?"
Falco: "Hey, Wolf, are you buddies with us now?"
Wolf: "No, I'm only getting revenge for myself. This guy took down my prey... You."

*Battle Begins*  less

Ganondorf collapses after being defeated by the two, but even though they won, they were worn out. Suddenly, a large turtle-like monster and an overweight man came, each of them holding some sort of large   more...gun. They both smile, and fire it at Fox and Wolf. As the two are exhausted, they are hit. They are turned into a stone-like state.

Fox then finds himself in a rather open green field, and notices his ally, Falco, is here as well. He had turned Fox back to normal.

Falco: "Yo, Fox, I found you! C'mon, call your Arwing and let's go!"
Fox: "Yeah... Thanks, Falco."

As Fox calls in his Arwing, Falco spots the same duo that turned Fox and Wolf into stone. In the turtle's arm, he notices Wolf there, just as how he found Fox.

Wario: "Argh! That bird-brain got the other guy!"

Without thinking, Fox takes out his blaster and fires at the turtle's arm, making him release Wolf. He then catches Wolf, and hops in his Arwing, and Falco gets back in his own.

Falco: "Yo, why'd you save Wolf?"

Fox doesn't respond, but notices the Great Fox nearby. However, the turtle gives chase in his own flying vehicle, and the man... farts towards the Great Fox.

*Battle Begins*  less

Wolf howls in victory, after defeating Fox. However, he doesn't kill him, saying he shouldn't since Fox had spared him all the time. Instead, he simply starts to walk away.

???: "You, there! What   more...are you doing in the master's realm?" Hearing this, Wolf turns around.
Wolf: "I don't care. I'm leaving anyways."
???: "You've seen enough! I'll dispose of you! You cannot escape now!"
Wolf: "Heh, fine. I'll beat you like I did Fox."

However, Wolf was bluffing. He was very tired from his fight with Fox. But he fought this man anyway. Soon after, he was defeated withh ease. During this time, Fox regained consciousness.

Fox: "Wolf, you can't win! Let me help!" Fox says, struggling to get up.
Wolf: "I don't need your help, pup!"
Fox: "Look at yourself, you're a complete mess! Not much better than me!"

Wolf notices that Fox is right. He'll be destroyed if he continues to fight by himself. He nods, and Fox walks next to Wolf. Wolf and Fox are allies for the moment, but can they win when they're so injured?

Wolf: "Don't think this'll change anything, Fox."

Fox smirks at this remark. "Sure, Wolf."

*Battle Begins*  less

I'm Wolf and Fox is a lvl 9 CPU. In this vid I did my best and didn't lose a single life!

A lil' story to go with this...

Wolf and Fox are fighting each other midair, and fire at each other at the same   more...time. This causes both of their ships to crash, and the two escape and land on the Final Destination.

Wolf: "Well Fox, it seems we're equal midair..."
Fox: "Yeah, but what IS this place?"
Wolf: "Like it matters. Anyways, we can settle who's better, once and for all."
Fox: "Wolf, I think we should-"
Wolf: "C'mon, Pup! Scared?"

Fox sighs, and gets ready for battle.

Wolf: "You don't know how long I've been waiting for this... just you and me, 1 on 1."

*Battle Begins*  less

I'm Ganondorf, C. Falcon is a lvl 9 CPU. Heh, this was actually a request from YT.

I'm Wolf, the others are lvl 9 CPUs. The battle takes place at a custom stage I made, which is great for Stamina battles such as this one.
