This might turn out to be too onerous but I am starting a blog to create some kind of online reference for all this plus more that doesn't fit in with LV. As usual I have serious reservations about its efficacy for many reasons but let's give it a try. If only a few people like it and tell me so then it will be worthwhile plus it's fun (for a while) and will help my ailing memory remember what I have done and promised to do in one place.
Finally, I encourage you to seek out the DVD of this (which I think is available, if not it darn well should be) and his book 'Sigh For A Merlin' which is one of the essential Spitfire books.  less

2-seat Spitfire over Duxford

Development of the Spitfire is rather overdone on TV such is the media's fascination with the most elegant fighter of WW2 (some say). But quantity should not be confused with quality. This is a part of   more...a doc made yonks ago for the only decent science/engnieering series on Ch4. Nothing like this on that channel any more for shame. That disappointing state of of affairs is not confined to Ch4, sci/eng is treated appallingly on all TV channels for the most part. Time to get off the hobbyhorse and upload the clip. No one reads this tripe anyway.  less

Prepping the two-seat Spitfire at Duxford, odd way to tow a plane but it is a tail-dragger. Whenever you visit Duxford you get a 'free' airshow - one of the many airworthy planes there will be air-tested   more...or returning from an airshow etc. A good mix of old and new too.  less

Another one of those incredible flying duos. This was not part of an airshow but apparently for practical reasons. It was thought the Lightnings might meet up with adversary Spits - weird. I recall this   more...never came to anything.  less

MH434 Spitfire and the 'yellowjacks' RAF display team in close formation - the YJ were the precursors to the Red Arrows.

It seems sacrilege to even think of such a thing now - using a Spitfire airframe for target practice. Yet here is video evidence of the sad demise of a later mark of Spitfire I nicked off a TV doc a while   more...back.  less
