King's July 31 interview of Vice President Cheney dealt mostly with a number of political topics. A sample of the questions from the interview:

How do you deal with it when public opinion polls are stridently   more...against the [Iraq] policy?

But in all cases, they did question themselves. In all cases, they said, well, let's look at it this way. Don't you? I mean the question is, don't you ever say, maybe I'm wrong?

In retrospect, you would still go into Iraq?

Does it pain you when Brent Scowcroft says this is not the Dick Cheney I knew?

Wouldn't you like to be liked?

OK, let's go back. On this program, May of 2005, you said the Iraqi insurgency was in the last throes. Why were you wrong?

In that same interview, you said that the Iraqis were well on their way to being able to defend themselves. Why not? Why are they gone?

To which branch of government do you belong? Are you executive or legislative, or both? We were a little confused over recent statements that you're not in either.

We have an op-ed piece by Walter Mondale, a former vice president, who held your job. And at that time, I guess, up to that time, he would be considered the most powerful vice president. He wrote that: "After 9/11, Cheney set out to create a largely independent power center in the Office of the Vice President. It was an unprecedented attempt not only to shape administration policy, but, alarmingly, to limit the policy options sent to the president."He also accused you of having "a near total aversion to the notion of accountability." How would you respond to that?

Don't you think this administration has also had its credibility problems?

Alberto Gonzales. Do you stand by him?

You're going to stand by him? No doubt about that?

In that regard, "The New York Times," which is -- as you said, it's not your favorite paper, reports it was you who dispatched Gonzales and Andy Card to then Attorney General John Ashcroft's hospital in 2004 to push Ashcroft to certify the president's intelligence gathering program. Was it you?

The "Scooter" Libby trial, did it pain you?

The Senate Judiciary Committee is subpoenaing Karl Rove in connection with the firing of federal prosecutors. Why shouldn't he appear?

But the public might say, what have you got to hide?

So he -- so he [Rove] will not appear?

General Powell says he would close Guantanamo yesterday. Would you?

You have to torture them when they're there?

How come in the past though there's been a question on that?

Have you ever said, "We support certain methods of physical harm"?

What is "enhanced" [referring to Cheney's line 'We support the ability of certain agencies of the federal government to have the capacity to use enhanced techniques for interrogation']?

When you have Tony Snow spinning wild accusations against Democrats to distract from the news that Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee has requested a Special Prosecutor to look into   more...Alberto Gonzaless conflicting testimony before Congress, who else better to have on than a former Reagan official? After all, its not like Saint Ronnies man could be accused of a partisan witch hunt.

Chris Matthews talks to Stan Brand, former US House Counsel and Bruce Fein, formerly part of Reagans DoJ. Not surprisingly, Fein sees parallels in what is happening with Watergate.

MATTHEWS: How can Tony Snow come on the show as the Presidents spokesman and deny seeing and hearing what we just heard and saw?

BRAND: Well, hes not a grand jury and hes not a prosecutor

FEIN: Hes Ron Ziegler during Watergate. And you remember all the equivocations that were made by Mr. Nixon that these are just concocted allegations and John Dean is lying. Well, John Dean wasnt lying. One of the ironies there about this attempt to split hairs right now is what its a reminder of for Republicans: its President Clinton with the meaning of the word is is, whats the meaning of the word alone? This is not games when youre under oath and testifying with regard to an oversight function of Congress.

MATTHEWS: Okay, let me ask you this, the toughest question in the world: so what? Can those guys on the Hill, Chuck Schumer, etc. and Patrick Leahy for judicial or political reasons, or Constitutional reasons, really bring the case to this White House and this Attorney General? Can they really put him in jail for lying?

FEIN: They cannot, because they cannot enforce the law and initiate a criminal prosecution. What they can do and what they would have to do is begin impeachment proceedings. The President has a duty to faithfully execute-not sabotage-the law

This sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Well, it's not. We have a unique opportunity right   more...now to send Karl Rove to jail, but only if we take immediate action. Awesome video. I am sick of these neocon scum getting away with everything and claim with a straight face they are ordained by "god" to lead us. Put Rove's ass in jail.

All we have to do is pressure the 40 members of the House Judiciary Committee, make them hold Rove in contempt and send him to jail. We've never had such a direct opportunity to hold Rove accountable. No, this is not enough punishment for his years and years of crimes, but it's a huge start, and will send a very clear message to the entire Bush administration.

The specific issue regarding Rove's failure to testify before Congress is a little complicated, so we put together this video that explains exactly why Rove should be held in contempt and sent to jail. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton testified before the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration on the pressing need for election reform. In her testimony, the Senator emphasized the need for every citizen   more...to be given the opportunity to vote as well as the confidence of knowing that his or her vote is counted.

Senator Clinton also highlighted her comprehensive election reform legislation, the Count Every Vote Act, which she and Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones reintroduced earlier this year. The bill would require a voter-verified paper record for every vote cast, improve security measures for electronic voting machines, set a uniform standard for provision ballots, and implement a number of other reforms to improve the federal election process.
