"Hurt" is a song written by Trent Reznor, first released on Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album The Downward Spiral. In 2002, "Hurt" was covered by Johnny Cash to critical acclaim; it was   more...one of Cash's final hit releases before his death. Its accompanying video, featuring images from Cash's life and directed by Mark Romanek, was named the best video of the year by the Grammy Awards and Country Music Awards.

Reznor said that when Rubin first asked if Cash could cover his song, he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.

“ I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore… It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning — different, but every bit as pure.

Saving Abel is an American rock band formed by Jared Weeks and Jason Null in 2004. The band's name references the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Null came up with the name saying “I googled the story   more...of Cain and Abel and found a line about ‘there was no Saving Abel,’ which just jumped out at me.” Saving Abel released their self-titled, major label debut album on March 11, 2008. The album features the single "Addicted" which peaked at #2 on the US Mainstream Rock Chart. As of July 2008 Saving Abel's self-titled album has sold over 87,000 copies.  less

This was the first single released from Switch, the 11th studio album by the Australian rock band INXS. The single was released on November 29, 2005. It is the first album recorded with new lead singer   more...J.D. Fortune, who won the Rock Star: INXS competition to succeed Michael Hutchence, the band's late lead singer.
The song debuted on the show Rock Star: INXS during the time when Fortune was vying for the lead vocalist spot in INXS. The eight contestants were challenged to write lyrics to melody written by Andrew Farriss. They were divided into two teams of four. When Fortune did not see eye to eye with his team (which included runner-up Marty Casey), he decided to venture out on his own and write his own lyrics.
A few weeks after Fortune's win, the NBC drama Las Vegas chose "Pretty Vegas" as a promotional song for its upcoming season in 2005.  less

"Through Glass" is the second single from the rock band Stone Sour's second album Come What(ever) May. The song was originally inspired by frontman Corey Taylor's outrage at the music industry   more...and how he felt that the musical revolution had never taken place. As the video progresses, the people at the party abruptly become cardboard cutouts and are carried away. Eventually the whole building where the party was being held becomes a cutout as well and is removed. The band members are shown in the party and they eventually head outside and begin playing in front of what appears to be the Hollywood sign (which actually reads "Hollowood", a point made at the hollowness of the current music business). This also is revealed to be a cardboard cutout at the very end of the video.  less

"Getting Away with Murder" is the first single from Papa Roach's third album, Getting Away with Murder (2004), and sixth released single in total. The video is performance based; showing the   more...band playing in a Stock Exchange Hall with references filled with fans. There are references to WarGames, Tic-Tac-Toe, and Global Thermonuclear War calculations on the display screens in the background. Occasionally messages flash up during the video. "In God we trust" appears as a message, and then alternates between that and "In guns we trust" as well as "In oil we trust". "Murder accomplished" is the last one to appear. It alternates between "Murder" and "Mission" accomplished. The characters in the big screen in the background also change shape periodically to resemble the U.S. flag. Fighter jets, tic-tac-toe boards, and multiple copies of the skull and crossbones materialize on the big screen, as well as maps of the world and flying dots representing missiles. There are also Trading Places references too.Other messages appearing on the display screens in the background include WMD(weapons of mass destruction), MRDR(murder), 'BSH' and 'CHNY'
