Don't know if it's possible with Mario. Well, when you get to the windmill. You don't need to activate the platforms. Just do what I do in   more...the video. Don't know if this saves seconds. But it should do. You don't need to go activate the windmill and don't need to riiiide it soooo slooow xD. Well, as always, I found it, but the real cred goes to SDA!

Description of how to do it:
When you get to the Windmill, go left of the "Main platform" (the start of the video). Then triple jump, spin and wall jump. It can be kind of tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too hard. then just walk slowly so you don't fall of the edge here. Then backflip+spin+wall jump onto the boss platform :)

And I did a sucky round against the boss, I know xD  less
