History: In 1999, my life was affected by a book titled, "Divorce Your Car" written by a woman living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Because of her book, I got rid of my gasser car at the time and got some electric bikes and a scooter (popular with Google founders and Spielberg.) That was the beginning of my hobby of battery-powered transportation. In the small town in Michigan, population 1,500 folks, there were at least three electric scooters. The Currie Flyer scooter impressed me with its ability to climb up a fairly steep hill. Dr. Malcolm Currie, who designed these scooters, retired from designing army tanks and put his talent into zero-emission vehicles. I now owned about ten electric bikes, scooters, and never bought another gasser since. Learned a lot from trouble-shooting, modding, and re-working those electric scooters. Batteries for Ego-II scooters usually lasted six months before needing replacement. Then, an article in National Geographic on the plague of discarded lead-acid batteries from electric bikes there made us wonder if discarded batteries could still be reused. By a series of experiments, we figured out how to rejuvenate batteries for our electric mopeds. Today, we can pretty much rejuvenate any battery, even NiMH and Nicads, including single-use lithium button cells used for garage remote clickers. (But not laptop and cell phone batteries due to microprocessors inside them.) We were thinking that the billions of discarded batteries could be turned into a recycling business someday, just like inkjet cartridges. The average engineer will probably tell you that it is not possible to draw only 50 amperes at 120 volts and go uphill with a 2,800 lb. vehicle at the speed limit. The average engineer might also calculate   more...that Bees Can't Fly.

This is a pickup that works on dead batteries that have been rejuvenated. That's the easier part. Now, this vehicle (which was designed to require 1800 lbs. of batteries originally) is drawing only 50 amps after another battery discovery. There are four battery breakthoughs in this vehicle plus several technical workarounds (discoveries) that now allow it to run for longer distances due to lower current draw than in March, 2007.



After several modifications, amps draw reduced to 60A max (50A average) from former 200A on long uphill run up Lions Gate Bridge, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Check out the older videos on Youtube showing the 200A run.

This vehicle runs on discarded, mixed sized, lead-acid (Pb) batteries that were revived, along with several other battery breakthroughs and hardware workarounds.
