Popeye the sailor was one of the most endearing and successful characters in animation history with a unique way of speaking, muscular forearms and an ever-present Corncob pipe. His strange, humorous, and often supernatural adventures take him all over the world, and place him in conflict with enemies such as the Sea Hag and Bluto..

The plot lines in the animated cartoons tended to be simple. A villain, usually Bluto, makes a move on Popeye's "sweetie", Olive Oyl. The bad guy then clobbers Popeye until Popeye eats spinach, which gives him superhuman strength. The fundamental character of Popeye, paralleling that of another 1930’s icon, Superman, also invokes traditional values possessing uncompromising moral standards and resorting to force only when threatened, or when he "can't stands no more"!

The first volume includes 58 (7-10 min) theatrical blk & white shorts from 1933 to 1938 and 2 two-reeler 20 minute color cartoons. DDR's update for Popeye by the time this video was recorded (in May) makes him one painful guy. His attack CLSNs give him an excessive range   more...even in melee attacks, his combos have a lot of priority and high speed, and let's not talk about his invincibility in some attacks. Besides that, he has his "spinach mode". Yeah, I know Popeye becomes invincible when he eats spinach, but in his MUGEN version it makes him tougher... and cheaper.

Although I expected him to be way cheaper, Popeye is unfair. That's a pity, because he could be a really nice character if some things were fixed for him, like the priority and the CLSNs.

The stage is the Korean dock from King of Fighters 98 and the music is Korean Team's theme in KOF 96 & 98, "Seoul Road".
