If you thought Rapa Nui was all about a dead civilization you would be wrong.

One Example of how the culture that crossed the pacific in a canoe then survived famine, slavery and disease is still alive   more...and well Is the group of musicians, dancers and songwriters collectively known as Matato'a.

Its possible you have heard of Matato'a their fame extends way beyond the tiny pacific Island which gave birth to them.

Matato'a incorporate traditional Rapa Nui musical structures into new compositions, The result is something that continues the spirit of exploration which bought their ancestors to the Island this time in music and dance.

To the people of Rapa Nui ancestors are very important! I think if there ancestors are watching they will be very proud of the well structured, caring and artistic society this generation of Islanders have created from almost nothing, You have to ask yourself if the same could be said of your own country?

I was lucky enough to see Matato'a perform a show in there home town while I was on Easter Island, They performed brilliantly, the audio on my camera however did not so this is dubbed with the album version of the song one of there biggest hits “Here Ma'Ohi”

On the island of Moorea in Tahiti there is a Lagoon Motu Picnic, hosted by Albert Tours and Tahiti Vacations, that is an absolute blast. First stop after departure early in the morning is at the reef   more...near the Sheraton Hotel that involves the crew feeding around 20 to 25 black tipped reef sharks while those who want to get in the water to observe the sharks moving back and forth. Very intersting. Then on to shallow waters to personally feed stingrays in waters that are about 4 to 5 feet deep, this is really interesting as the stingrays are friendly and fun to play with. Then on to lunch and snorkeling on the Motu, which means small island. Great time and worth the money, well worth the money.  less

I shot this video during a boat tour around the Moorea Island (near Tahiti, French Polynesia), during vacations. We had made a stop to see and touch the stingrays and also to see the sharks, while our   more...guide and pilot of the boat was giving them some treats. We all had snorkels, so I was able to go underwater and shoot pics and vids among them. I was not behind a glass, I was right by their side, using my snorkel. The guide told us that the sharks (black-tipped) were not supposed to be agressive to people, so I took my chances. I do not regret, it was awesome! It's my best souvenir of the sea during these days at Moorea and Tahiti.  less
