This is the original uncut Japanese version of Pokemon Episode 18: Holiday at Aopulco that aired on Japanese television on July 29, 1997. The   more...reason this episode was banned from all countries other than Japan was because there was a sequence halfway into the episode where Kojiro (James) crossdresses and is wearing a bikini with inflatable breasts. That one 25 second sequence caused so much controversy that it was banned outside of Japan for almost 3 years, but, on June 24, 2000, Kids' WB aired an edited version of the episode, and it was dubbed as "The Lost Episode" and titled "Beauty and the Beach". It re-aired as a one-off showing again in August 2000, but since then, this episode has never re-aired again anywhere in the world other than Japan. The United States is currently the only other country other than Japan to have aired this episode, but only twice. This is in Japanese with English subtitles.

The differences between the original Japanese version and the English version aired in the United States:
- There are many differences in music and sound throughout the episode. The English version of this episode has some of the Orange Island music, while the Japanese version keeps in check with the music used in the other episodes in the same season.

- There is profanity used in the Japanese version, such as the word "shit" that is used by Satoshi (Ash); and obviously, there isn't any profanity in the English version.

- All shots of Kojiro wearing a women's bikini with inflatable breasts were cut from the English version.

- In almost all of the English version of the Pokemon episodes, usually the Japanese text on signs, banners, posters, etc. are usually translated. in the English version, only the text on the trophy Hanako (Mrs. Ketchum) is holding is translated, and it says "First Place in our Hearts: Ash Ketchum" but this is not what it actually said in Japanese in this version.

- The "Who's That Pokemon?" in the English version is Pidgeotto, but in the Japanese Version, it is Obaba (Brutella) being hit over the head with a kitchen sink. This is the first time out of 2 times (the second time is Jessie in a Venomoth suit in EP163) in any of the Japanese episodes where a human is used in the "Who's That Pokemon?" segment. The third object thrown at Obaba (possibly a frying pan or a smooth rock) has OLM (the company that produces the animation for the Pokemon TV series and movies)'s company logo written on it.

-The winner of the beauty contest in the dub is Satoshi. In this version, his mother won the beauty contest.

- There is only one mistranslation in the subtitles, and that is when Ryu (Moe) first encounters Satoshi (Ash), Kasumi (Misty) and Takeshi (Brock). Ryu did not say to Kasumi "What a pretty girl", what he actually said was even more creepy. He said to her "things would be more fun if you were 8 years older" (LOL) Kasumi is 12 in this show, and 20 is the age that a female in Japan reaches adulthood. So yes, Ryu really was hitting on Kasumi.

This is the edited version of this episode. This does not contain the infamous and controversial "inflatable   more...breasts" scene, and an extra shot of James with the inflatable breasts was cut too.  less

I synced the English audio with the Japanese video and incorporated the deleted animation, although that animation was never dubbed, so, all the deleted animation   more...is in Japanese with English subtitles, but the rest of this episode is in English.

This is my favorite episode of the Kanto region season.

Since this episode was aired in the United States on June 24, 2000, the English dub did not keep in check with the voiceovers in the episodes that would have come inbetween it. Since this episode comes inbetween "Island of the Giant Pokemon" and "Tentacool and Tentacruel" in which Nathan Price provided the voice of Meowth in both episodes, and so he would have obviously provided the voice for Meowth in this episode. But, since Nathan Price only did Meowth's voice from "Pokemon Emergency!" to "Dig Those Diglett"; which aired on October 19, 1998, he no longer did the voice for Meowth when the English version of "Beauty and the Beach" was aired in 2000. So, the voice of Meowth was done by Maddie Blaustein.  less
