A song I wrote about middle age and the way life changes while reflecting on where we've been, then ending with what is truly most important today.

I added echo to the chorus by overdubbing vocals twice   more...over and moving rapidly away from the mic while singing the echo. This is what I had in mind originally for the song and I'm not quite sure it really works but I'll let you decide.

A new song about living life to the fullest and enjoying your moments while you are here.

My first new original song (with lyrics)in over 25 years. This song is about past loves and starts with the questioning after the break up with someone you loved. Then the song moves through the years   more...and wonders "what if" but realizes that can never be again. It's gone for good, so finally the song celebrates the memories of past loves.
I think the theme is universal and has been written about many many times over. I have had the first verse in my head since high school.  less

Yes the young fellow I am singing about is certainly conflicted. He knows he's leavin' soon but is afraid he will miss his girl but by the end of the song he has sorted it all out and is resolved and   more...actually glad to leave his girl. Such is life. Wrote this one in 1982.  less

This song came to me in a dream where I dreamt about the galaxy of stars we are a part of and wondered what meaning our lives have when compared to the enormous galaxy of stars. I concluded that finding   more...true love in this life is all that really matters and that Love itself is a beautiful state of mind.  less

A friend of mine commented that this song is "dark and moody, desperate and lonesome with a glimmer of hope" and I think he nailed it.

Inspiration: I went through a severely depressed period   more...when I had my heart broken badly about 20 years ago. The memory of that time is still with me and then I watched my cousin go through a very similar situation some years back. This new song was my attempt to capture the feelings I had at that time (don't ask me why the idea hit for the song me 20 years later!).
I have always hoped that nobody else would have to experience true heartbreak but I think it is a part of living.  less

A song I just wrote about my little 19 month old daughter.

I had the idea for a song about trying to explain the concept of Hate to my children and this is the song I ended up with. Perhaps the most important song I have written and it's dedicated to my kids.   more...It's a long one but there was so much I had to say to them that I couldn't make it shorter. My original song is climbing the Protest Video chart at Neil Young's website. It is now up to #20 (out of 260). You can help it go higher by going to the website and clicking on the link there. I guess   more...songs are rated by number of views they get.

Song is called "Where Is Your Soul?" and you'll see the link at #20. I am totally amazed that an amateur like me with just a simple microphone and acoustic guitar could get this high. It really does come as a surprise especially because this particular song is unrehearsed and just played from the gut. I have heard that Young likes that method of recording so perhaps that's why he chose the video for the list.

Song from the first solo album

This song came to me while I was thinking about loved ones I have lost. We all experience that overwhelming sense of grief and loss. I wrote the song down while I was feeling the sadness and recorded   more...it immedaitely while I still had the feeling. The vocal is a bit rough in places but I am driven by pure emotion on this one so that may have caused it I think. I made the music up as I went, not too complicated.  less

A beautiful song from the 1977 album American Stars and Bars. Imagine yourself as a salmon swimming upstream to spawn, what a beautiful metaphor! Young recorded this into a tape recorder in his living   more...room in front of a crackling fire so I tried and failed to replicate that look. The lighting was way too low and the fire on my computer screen is behind me. The recording came out good though so I went ahead with the video and lightened it as much as I could.  less
