Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, visited UCSF on National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11.

Kendell spoke about how far society has come in advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual,   more...transgender (LGBT) rights and the critical role each person, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, plays in the struggle for social justice.

Activists from across the U.S. descended on the HRC fundraising dinner in Washington DC on Saturday, October 6 2007. They were protesting the HRC decision NOT to oppose a newly introduced version of the   more..."Employment Non-Discrimination Act" (ENDA) that was stripped of the language which would have protected transgender people.

October is <a href="http://www.hrc.org/issues/coming_out.asp">National Coming Out Month</a> and October 11th is National Coming Out Day. Have you been in the closet for a while and   more...tired of hiding it and trying to act like, and be, someone you're not? Coming out is NOT about shouting it out and telling everyone (though it does require you to talk to some people like close friends and/or relatives), but it's more about you being able to accept yourself and not care what others think of you for being yourself. When you get to that point where you can say, "Oh well, if someone wants to hurt me or worse just because of who I am, that's their problem and I'm willing to take that chance, but I AM going to BE ME. To help you with coming out, get the <a href=" http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/coming_out_day_kit_standard">HRC Resources For Coming Out Kit</a>. Also, if you are already "out", as the campaign says, "Talk About It". Help make it easier for others to "come out". Just a reminder, there is a "Coming Out" topic in the Forums on this Channel for you to post your "coming out" stories.

The authorities of HongKong had tried to obstruct the painting of the sculpture by denying the Danish artist Jens Galschiot and his staff access to Hong Kong as they landed in the airport on April 26.   more...The expulsion has caused wide discussions in Hong Kong about whether China is now introducing their own visa rules and censorship on to Hong Kong. The Danish artist has been in Hong Kong several times before and is known for making peaceful art installations. He has put up The Pillar of Shame which has become a renowned memorial about the massacre on the Tiananmen square in Beijing 1989.

The Chinese Democracy Movement decided to paint the sculpture orange by themselves to put focus on Human Rights in China and show support to the world wide project TheColorOrange about using Orange in connection to the Olympic Games 2008 to boost the awareness about the Human Rights violations in China.
