The oldest form of the mermaid in mermaid mythology is the goddess Atargatis from Syria. A famous statue of Atargatis shows her as a woman from the waist up and a fish from there down. All sea goddesses   more...inherit the sea's qualities. Just as the sea could be gentle and nurturing or violent and deadly, so could they. These are the same contradictory qualities we see in mermaids to this day: beautiful, cruel, tender, loving, destroying, etc. In a larger sense this is man's view of nature. The mermaid, a fantastic creature, is nature herself.

“Siam Paragon Bangkok International Fashion Week 2008” – fashion highpoint of the year – 20 to 23 March 2008 at Siam Paragon

Following the outstanding success of the Bangkok International Fashion Week   more...2007, world class fashion centers Siam Paragon, Siam Center and The Emporium are set to stage another great fashion event – the “Siam Paragon Bangkok International Fashion Week 2008”or BIFW08, at a cost of more than 40 million baht. The fashion extravaganza will take place from 20-23 March 2008 at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon.

The four-day event covers 11 shows by more than 40 renowned Thai designers, rising new fashion design stars as well as an established young generation of designers. BIFW08 will be themed “Summer Colorful Collection” focusing on vivid colours to express the fun and celebratory mode of summer. BIFW08 is organised with the cooperation of alliances including CitiBank, Singha, MTM (Audi), L’Oréal Professionel, L’Oréal Paris, The Nation Group and Harper’s Bazaar, all keen supporters of Thailand's developing fashion industry.

Chadatip Chutrakul, Chief Executive Officer of Siam Paragon Development Co., Ltd. and Managing Director of Siam Piwat Co., Ltd., said that this special fashion event has been organised with the collaboration of Siam Paragon, Siam Center and The Emporium. These fashion centres have brought their more than 30 years of both local and international fashion retail experience to help make this year's event an even greater success. The fashion show and beautiful collections of the designers are new steps of the fashion industry to welcome summer and, especially, the newly designed catwalk perfectly blends technology and fashion,” added Kriengsak.
Leading Thai fashion brands who will showcase their latest collections in BIFW07 are Greyhound by Nokia, Flynow, Nagara and renowned brands including Kunitar & 8E88, 27 Nov., Tops & Bottoms by Phuket Mermaids. Featured also is the up-and-coming brand by Polpat Asavaprapha, a fashion guru and Siam Paragon Personal Stylist who has turned himself into a fashion designer under the brand “ASAVA Inspired by Singha.” The show also welcomes new face designers from Faculty of Fine Arts, Srinakharinwirot University under the brand FASH. Latest make up and hair trend will be revealed by L’Oréal in Extravaganza by L’Oréal Professionnel show.
